Josephine,

I just discovered this beautiful plant in the pasture next to me, growing wild. The folks over there let me dig up whatever I want because the horses will stomp all over the plants anyway. This evening, I dug up three clumps and transplanted them in one of my beds (hope they survive the move). Can you tell me how and when you collected the seeds and planted? I want more and I want to replenish the pasture, if at all poossible.

Hello Kristi, I started growing the Brazos Pentemon a few years ago from a plant that I bought at the nursery.
They make a lot of seed and I was able to propagate them quite a lot, although I have found that they do best when they propagate themselves.
I do have a lot of seed, so if you are going to the College Station R.U. I can bring you some, if not I can mail it to you.
They are in bloom here at this time, they are a short lived perennial and they make a rosette that stays green all winter, then shoot up in the spring.
The seed is very fine and works out best when it is scattered in the Fall.

Josephine, you are so sweet to offer the seeds. I think I can get seeds from the two clumps I dug up (hopefully). I wish I was going to the RU but April is such a hectic month for us. We have so much going on every weekend. I'm sad that I dn't get to meet everyone.

Hi Jospehine! I have a question for you about gathering the seeds. The penstamon is almost done blooming and I'm noticing small green seed pods. Should I gather them now or do they need to 'ripen' up a bit? I should have lot's of seeds to share with others as well and reseed the pasture next to me!

Hello Kristi, the seed pods need to be brown and dry before the seed is ready, it will probably be at least a month before they are dry, just remember if the pods are not brown and dry, don't pick them yet.
