I just placed an order with this company. I've been told they have good plants. The prices are great. $2.95 for a liner...but if you want them potted, it is $2.95 plus $11. Since I have plenty of pots, I figured, "Why pay all that shipping for potting soil?" The website is
http://hibiscusandmore.net/store/?osCsid=16290b4b9fc5e76fc6cabe3c704c715d
I bought:
Aztec Sun
Gator Pride
In Paradise
Jamilou
Purple Magic
Symphony
Yellow Fringes
The only thing is they only accept PayPal...but that works for me. I'll let ya'll know how the plants look when they get here.
***NOTE*** I cancelled my order with this company. The order was not shipped when they said it would be. I checked with them after two weeks and found out the owner had lost her supplier and was trying to find a new supplier. She expected to have a new supplier within the week. I gave her another week to ten days, and she still had no supplier, so I requested a refund. Since the site uses PayPal, I was able to get a refund fairly quickly. However, I would recommend contacting the website and seeing if they have resolved the supplier problem prior to placing an order. Although there was no problem with recieving the refund, I thought the owner should have notified me right away that she was having trouble filling the order.

Great Prices, beautiful flowers
BamaB, did you ever get your order? I am curious because the web site says they ship by priority mail the same day the order comes in (starting on Mondays, of course) . I ordered last Sunday and expected to receive the plants this week but nothing yet. How about you?
Still waiting. I had ordered on a Wednesday and so they should have shipped this past Monday or Tuesday. I'm going to call them next week and find out what the deal is.
don't hold your breath Bama. I e-mailed her after recieving a e-mail from 2 friends that ordered too. Lady says her contract grower didn't grow all winter so can't fill her orders and is looking for another grower. It may take a week or more to get my plant(already been 2 weeks with no word from her) or I can get a refund. Seems to me she should have lets us know that there was a problem. Not wait until we e-mail her to find out why we haven't recieved our plants. Refund might be the best thing as if she closes her store we may all get ripped off. Thankfully I only ordered 1
I just got the same email. She siad she expects to have an answer within a week.....I'll give her a week and if she hasn't got anyone to fill the orders, I'll get the refund. That is one of the nice things about it going through PayPal....if it doesn't work out, PayPal will make sure we get our refunds. Still, I think it is pretty odd that this person contracts growers and seels them online. I've never encountered that before.
I find it a bit odd that she is *selling* plants she does not have in her posession? I would consider it a bit dangerous to 1)sell things I don't have and 2)sell something I have not seen. Hopefully this was a last minute crop failure and not a collect the money to pay for the plants first deal. Sorry ladies. :(
Makes me wonder if this isn't one of those things they advertise on TV all the time for making money from home. Design a website, sell stuff, then order.... No wonder her prices were so good....
I'm starting to do a slow burn here. I tend to think the best of people and it takes a lot to burst my bubble...but, like I said...at least with PayPal, if they back out, you get your money back regardless.
I personally don't know anything about this seller or have any personal experience with them, but if she has a relationship with certain growers and buys stuff from them regularly, I could understand that she would take orders on plants that she was expecting soon (although it would have been nice to indicate that the plants were "expected soon" rather than making you think they were already in stock). It's just like your local nursery--they buy most of their stuff from wholesale growers rather than growing it themselves, and there's no reason why mail order nurseries/plant sellers shouldn't operate the same way. There are always ones who do grow all their own plants, but just the fact that she buys stuff from growers rather than growing her own stuff isn't necessarily a red flag. But I couldn't find a listing for this seller in Garden Watchdog, so I would tend to be more cautious in that case, and if you end up having trouble I would definitely add an entry sharing your experience.
Good point. Like I said, I tend to think the best of people (most of the time) till they prove me worng...and I am willing to give this person the benefit of the doubt. However, if it takes her/him too long to get the plants, it will be too hot to plant them and they won't make it. And, the true test will be whether or not the people who ask for refunds get them in a timely manner.
I asked for a refund this morning and just got an email from Paypal saying she had refunded my money so she passed that test.
So sad that she jumped the gun offering plants she did not have.
alice
Well, she did say she had been in touch with the grower all along and they never indicated that they had any problems. Maybe the grower is in an area that was hard hit by last year's hurricanes and thought they would be able to recover, but then didn't. After all, these are tropical plants, so it is highly possible they come from Florida, Lousiana or Mississippi..... Like I said, I like to beleive the best about people....
She should know by Friday if the grower can supply the plants. The fact that she refunded me promptly told me she is a fair person. I would not hesitate to order again - after I ascertained the plants were available. a
You gals are scaring me. I just ordered from here also, and haven't yet seen any plants. But it was only a week ago, they may be waiting til today or tommorrow to ship. They do have some gorgeous varieties, though. I'm curious to see what their liners are like(for 2.95).I only ordered four plants, just to try out this company.I'm still excited. good luck ladies!
Tanya,
It was just last week when she told me that she was trying to get a repalcemetn supplier and hoped to have one by the end of this week. I would not expect to get your shipment this week....and probably not next. Unless she has the supplier ship direct, the palnts will ahve to be sent to her, then sent out to us.
It is a shame she states on her web site that she will ship your order the same day it is received. It would have been nice if she could have issued a correction with the order confirmation.
I contacted them today about my order also.. It was placed on 4-27, and I had no word from them. She also informed me the same thing as all of you.. I told her I would wait a week and then I wanted to be refunded..I hope we do get the refunds.. Mine was rather large.,. We'll see.. I agree, she should have let us know about this.. Had I not contacted her, I probably still would not have heard from her.
larkie
She is probably scrambling trying to find a wholesaler/grower to fill the orders. I imagine she is embarassed. I know I would be.
well let hope when and if we get our orders they are the correct plant and not just something she could get her hands on. Most of the Antique Treasure out there are not the right one I am wanting but her is based on the pic
I was wondering about that Donna, the photos of Antique Treasure seem to be different on every site I look at.
I had it but Katrina took it away. She seems to be the only one to have it. I got it from the co-op last year from Carol
Did you check out the one at www.atouchofthetropics.com? If it is the one you are looking for, I can attest that the plants are worth the price plus the exhorbitant shipping. It would probably take two years to get a liner even close to the size plants they ship.
At my age two years mean a lot. LOL
Wow! I could blow my plant budget for the next year on one fell swoop!
Know what you mean.....
I did check other Hibiscus growers on the east coast and they wanted as much and in most cases more for quart sized pots. Since Kell, Lali and Zuzu all raved about these plants I figured it was worth a try. I "invested" in 2 plants and I have not been sorry.
Actually I wanted 3 but David wouldn't send the third plant because it did not have enough buds on it due to their bad weather. He personally called me and told me he would get back to me after their conditions improved. 2 thumbs up!!!!!!
Wow! Now that is service!!!! How much was shipping? I was ordering the liners because they were so cheap and because the shippign was a lot less. For the rpice of two palnts I was able to order 7...but now it is beginning to look like I won't even get those. Oh well, maybe that is for the best. I need to create my landscape over time...not try and get it all done in one season....what would I do next year???? LOL!
Don't be silly! You'd dig new beds to make room for the new plants. LOL
True...but I've only got 1/3 of an acre....got to leave room to walk. LOL!
Why? LOL Just plant shorter plants down the middle with stepping stones. :)
ROFL! They would have to be REALLY short plants....with my bones, I have a hard enough time just picking up my feet some days. I saw some really great ground cover plants at the nursery that were soooo cool. They were called Baby Toes. They were tiny plants with kind of round leaves and they felt so neat to the touch....I'd love to have a yard full of it and just walk barefoot all the time. It must be a company specific name for the palnt because I cna't find it online. I found a cactus called Baby Toes...but it wasnt the same thing. Maybe once I get my water garden i next year I'll plant some around the water garden.....
Oh, I love those! They are not hardy here of course! Oh wait, not the succulent baby toes?? I wonder if it was like creeping charlie or creeping jenny or something? I want to say look up Lysimachia....
These were sort of like a succulent...but they did not look a thing like the cactus. They were more like miniature jade plants with leaves about 3mm in diameter.....very tiny.....and they had them in little square pots and they covered the whole top of the pot. Dang...wish I could remember the company trade name of the ground cover plants then I could look up the company and find the plant. The company name had a double 'oo' in the name...and the logo was a pair of eyeballs made out of the 'oo'...or something similar. Well, I'll be going down there before too long to pick up a bunch of mulch. I've got to dig out the space behind my hydrangeas and make room for the nandinas my sis is bringing me...and that is going to take a LOT of mulch since it extends the length of my front porch.
Looks a lot like it, but these were realy, really tiny leaves. Each leaf was smaller than a ladybug.
try baby tears or Baby's tears. I'm almost positive it's the same plant. Correct me if I'm wrong, guys.
ardesia, your plant is a sedum, maybde sedum ternatum.
Carlos
I think think that may be it. This image looks like it.

Thanks Carlos, that might be it although mine has never bloomed. However, that is a small (4") pot it is in and it has been there for 3 years so perhaps it just hasn't had the ideal conditions for blooming.
