Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Ok then you did not get what you paid for. Call them and explain what you bought and what you recived and also you bought named plants and can't read the names. You piad good money to have named plants and wells , if you wanted just the plants you could have gone to wal-Mart and paid a couple dollars each plant no shipping.
I'm sure they will want to take good care of you.
Let us know OK.
Allison
PS I got the number after having a problem with them and calling Optimara and her husband gave me it. as I told him I don't like doing businness with them when they have no phone number. All the other Vendors have phone numbers.

my problem is i don,t have long distanced,so i will wait on email

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I do have the plant named Chico and it was labeled when I got it. It is on the Optimara website so at least you can find that one. I'm not sure about the others but I agree that you should call them and tell them that you did not get what you paid for and that you want to know the names of the plants that they sent you.

Regarding Chico, he is a Frilled, Bi-color, white with a blue edge. Here is what he looks like. http://www.optimara.com/optimarafieldguide/varietiesa-l/chico.html

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Good Morning ! I could not write good last night it was dark and Hubby was trying to sleep and I use my computor from bed ~
Nemantanthus Tropicana
is great ! I love yellow flowers :)) In 1969 William Saylor, of Brewster Massachusetts, crossed most Nematanthus in cultivation and came up with some interesting results ! One of the hybrids, " Nemantanthus Tropicana " . Nemantanthus Tropicana
is a vigorous plant perhaps easier to bloom than others. The leaves are an inch long, of heavy texture
and red back . The stems are also deep burgundy. WOW what a nice combination with the prettiest golden yellow heavily striped with chesnut flowers !
Nemantanthus Tropicana grows more upright but very colorful foliage.
Nematanthus like a rich mix and great for hanging baskets. In the window they can be started easy and moved to baskets later . Their soil should not be packed right around the roots, since a good deal of aeration is liked by these plants. In the window some direct sun is neccary . ( I am wondering though about this in Floridas hot sun I would think would burn the foliage ?) I read it likes tempertures of above 65 degrees F. Beacasue of this plant likes loose soil , watering must almost be daily unless a it's cloudy.
After a spout of flowering these plants seem to need a rest. This is ture in the Winter . ( may be different here in FL ). The reason though for this happening is not known for sure whether this is a consequence of lower tempertures in growing room or seasonal . However , once bloom has ceased, for what ever reason watering should be reduced and no fertilizer used. Never good to force fertilizer on a plant. It will let you know how much water and food is needed by it's growth. If over watered leaves will drop off. N. Tropicana if the temperture is over 65 and high humidity, growth and bloom can be year round continous !
Nematanthus ( formerly was Hypocyrta) Gesneriaea. Nematanthus flowers are unusual beauty , at first sight a vier may think a joke. It is a tube with deep keel or pouch , at the end of which a little opening with minute lobes. The color may be bright orange, plain or tipped with yellow, or a most unusau horizontal striping of orange and chestnut, bright yellow. The beautiful contrast with the shiny, waxy foliage is very striking !
The indoor plant World was quickly changing in 1957 with this wonderous Nematanthus plants. In 1957 Dr. Harold E. Moore, Jr. a major authority, wrote African violets, Gloxinias and The Relatives and included only species called at the time Hypocyrta nummularia. I'd like to get a hold of this book !
These plants are very fasinating ! I know I am going to enjoy my first one ! Hope you do too :))

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Columnea also like tempertures over 65 for bloom humidity fifty percent or better - and plants also enjoy misting. Cold water will discolor the foliage. They like to be topped watered. In the house the most important part of growing Columnea is trimming . The upright types, which are preferable to the trailers, still have a more horizontal growth, though when the stems are long enough they will hang down. The only difference is they are thick and stiff instead of being stringy. Thicker stems will branch freely if the tips are nipped back. So nipping should be done regularly. Instead of long streamers covered with flowers, you will have a many-branched plant doing the same thing. Growing this beautiful house plant this way will be more desirable .
They do best if not subjected to direct sun for more than an hour or two daily. On the other hand they do require brightness for at least five hours each day and, if there is a cloudy spell, only green growth will be produced. They like potted rather loosely in a rich mix with plenty of lime, and fertilizer with balanced numbers at every watering. They also like small pots. They also enjoy a bit of potbinding. They are not affected much by insects.
Reading about these plants seems each variety grows a little different some more easier than other some bloom more. Sounds just like different varieties
of African violets. In general they are a fun and easy plant to grow and enjoy. Progate and share :))

i see your a early bird to.i get up at 3,30am
are you a collectorof anything except violets?
hope you are feeling well this morning

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi :)) I can't wait for you to get them ! I think they are easy to grow and even easier in Florida with our heat and humidity. I know what you mean if it was not the joy of growing plants and babies and sharing to keep me going I'd be sleeping 24/7.
I don't collect much more now. I like growing everything but grow all mostly by leaf. Stretocarpus, Chiritas, I have a Nematanthus now ! I can root you one too :)) I am getting a Petrocsmea ! from LL. I saw the picture of the one I would love in my Gesneriad Journal and went searching so Happy they have it. I don't really have much room , we have a single wide one bedroom trailer. I love growing African violets by leaf so much. Some how I still have about 300 different varieties growing different than the ones I have sent to people sense Nov 05 DG friends. So I will have lots to share in the Fall for people before the long dreary winter comes. This is the very best time of the year to sent leaves they grow the best then in the Fall you have trades and sharing and in the winter many flowers to cheer your home :))
