Q: What in the world is a ‘Girl Leaf’? Are African Violets girls and boys?

A: Violet_Treasure (Allison) answers your Girl Leaf questions in this thread. [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]

Janis did you get this info ? Many of us on this forum love girl foliage and collect girl leaf plants ! Me for one I love girl foliage !
Do you have any ?

Sorry Allison, yes I did read this and a whole bunch of other stuff. I got one leaf from Bloomlovers coming with girl foliage. Thanks!!

Cool which one did you get ? I bought mostly girl foliage from her.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

I got Smitten Kitten. I can't wait, but she isn't going to ship until May 13. I put down 4 leaves off each of the 4 plants I bought the other day, so hopefully They will produce babies.

Janis thats the cutest plant ! Smitten Kitten ! You will love her ! If you'd ever like some leaves or babies for trade or shipping I have some :))

I should have asked here first I guess, but I just ordered them before I could change my mind. I have wanted Irish Flirt for over a year now, so I got it too. My favorite color is green. I got Pretty Poison for the same reason.

Now, to keep them alive :)

I feel it grows best in natural light.

Most times I keep a leaf to put down . But we have tiny home can't keep them all. But I love them all so I have grown a thousand or more different varieites and given them away. I do feel I can grow them by leaf in my sleep it's so easy !

LOL I hope it is as easy for me! Your irish flirt is so very pretty! We don't have a tiny home, but 6 people in a 3 bedroom house is crowded, and the house seems alot smaller than it is. My kids range from 15 to 4. the Boys are the oldest and youngest, and my girls are 7 and 9. Its a handful, and we definately need a bigger house!

I'm drooling on my keybouard now! That one is really pretty too, I can definately see why these are so addictive!

Here is a great girl leaf plant. I grew this one for Jill. Though last week I took any flowers off and put her into a 2.25 or 2.50 inch pot. I forget which one lol
She is big now. I find she grows best in natural light along with most girl folage. End of tube or window.

Your a busy Mom !
You can never have too many African violets. You can grow them in every window in your home :))

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

I love the little pots you keep yours in! I love the foliage on that one too. I'm gonna have to start hitting yard sales to find little tea cups and stuff to keep mine in!

I Dmailed you hope that was ok.

600+ with girl leaves? definately gonna need a bigger house LOL

I have the ones I got the other day in front of a South facing window, but there are blinds on the window that are only partially open. My DH is very light sensitive, so we have lots of blinds, and I can only open them when he is at work (which seems like it is all the time)

I have East, West and South facing windows. The north side of our house is hillside, you can almost touch it out the back window :)

REALLY all windows are good. A lace curtian can protect plants from hot sun or blinds that can be closed during the hot part of the day.
I have some windows right next to our carport and teees and shade garden. But my plants still get morning sun and light all day and they seem very happy.
Then in the same room windows fascing front and on the other side all have plants too . Everyone blooms and grows happy :))
