ID help/confirmations on first time bloomers

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Just wanna make sure I've got my labels right :)
This one labled as H. glabra coming from Carol

This one labled as H. meredithii small leaf GPS 3576, so I'll assume H. vitellinoides though it does have smaller leaves than the "normal" one.

The first one reminds of one I bought as glabra, but it turned out to be citrina. Does it smell wonderful? Then it could be citrina. When mine bloomed I sniffed it whenever I could!

Hmmmm define wonderful :)
It does smell very nice, though it is a carnation like fragrance and I thought that citrina has more of a citrus fragrance to it.

I always thought that glabra's had more of a purple flower? Could be wrong. I love the small leaf of the meridithii/vitellinoides.

congrats on your glabra bloom, I have a plant that is about 4 years old now and it hasn't even developed a peduncle. I love the plant but I would like a bloom too. Good growing. The flower on your H. meredithii is very different and pretty..

I think we ought to string Carol up by her toenails if she sent you that as H. glabra....REALLY!!!! LOL

Here is H. glabra..

Heather I should have made an appointment with you last week since I was in Twin cities last Thursday :).

There are not many pictures of H. glabra flowers on the web so it's hard to compare.
The one on Eva-Karin Wiberg website is kinda purple but as we know color can vary greatly within a species.

I assume that her picture was taken shortly after the flowers opened since the lobes are not yet reflexed.

and another... Perhaps she could send you a cutting... talk to Ceedub :>)))))

Better cut those nails Carol or I'll take you up on it after seeing the picture you posted :)

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Anyways so what should I call the "non glabra"?
Looking at the flowers makes me think that it may belong into the "pottsii clan"

Here a pic of my archie which hopfully will open its buds soon ;)

Milan,

Can you post pics of the leaves of the non-glabra?

Your second non-meredithii looks like an unknown sp. from Sabah, I believe. I had it and thought it was a clone of H. califtophylla which it isn't... Actually it could be some sort of a hybrid of finlaysonii x incrassata which are running around Europe under lots of different names....

Carol

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

No problem Carol, here's the leaf.
Lucky I have that Hoya at work :)

I also have a plant labeled as H. meredithii GPS 3576 when I bought it, but the seller was not 100 % sure of the identity.

and finally a leaf

Lotta, I got this one originally from Paul Shirley and he had it in his list as meredithii small leaf. I just checked but he doesn't have it listed anymore.
It might be that it is a cross as Carol pointed out. Doesn't matter, it has pretty leaves and flowers, what more does one want/need :)

I will find the email where David Liddle told me what it is...the non-meredithii....

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Oh and let me add that the GPS 3576 has a rather odd fragrance which I'm not able to explain, how about you Lotta?

Örebro, Sweden

Yes, it's pretty. And a frequent bloomer too.

Would be nice to hear what it is, though.

Edit: I will have to get back regarding the fragance :) Will check when the new buds open up in a couple of days...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Here is what I received from D. Liddle:

"the correct name for this species is Hoya sp. Sarawak IPPS3425. I misled you in saying it was from Sabah. . It is sold in Europe as H. meredithii. "

There you go.

Thanks!

Darn Milan! It would have been great to have met up with you! Could have smuggled you back with some hoyas. Not sure I would have any you needed, but I could have sent you back with a new variety, Shminka, aka boston terrior! Lol!

Heather, are you sure it's not a Boston Terrorier? :)

I may have to go back to Minneapolis soon though my budget on this project is a little low and I'll only go if I have to.
Gladly would like to meet up with you if I go, gives me something other to do than visiting Mall of America (no Hoyas in there :)

Had someone else smell the sp. Sarawak flowers and he said it smelled like fish (but maybe tastes like chicken :)

Milan

Long Beach, CA

EWWW.....yuk....that sounds like it doesn't smell very nice. How about the other one we have as H. meredithii? (the big leafed one)...does it smell the same? I have that one, but it has never bloomed. Now I am not sure I want it too...ha. It is right near my computer.
Marcy

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Marcy, it doesn't have one of those room filling fragrances like carnosa or pubicalyx otherwise it would have gone outside :).
You really gotta get your nose close to notice it.

Another one with room filling fragrance especially in the evening and no questions regarding the name :)

Also a fragrant one ( a good fragrant :), pubicalyx 'RB'

Okay, next time you are in the Minneapolis area, I will need one of those archie's, then I won't sick the dogs on you, lol! She is 16 pounds of fury!! Frightening huh?
Heather

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Thanks for the warning Heather, I'll only visit your place in full body armor and will not wear any "mailman like" clothing items :)
