Allison's pots

Silver Spring, MD

Allison,

I have been rearranging my shelves today and trying to do some repotting. I looked at one of the pots you sent and it is the perfect size to go into some thumb print watering wells I got last year but havent used because the pots that came with them are TOO small even for supper mini plants.

The pot is black and on the bottom is stamped KISS, FL ---- BPLR-175 4. It is the perfect size for several of the mini plants that I have and it sits into the top of the water wells. Could you tell me where you got the pots? Or if you have extra I would be happy to buy some from you.

Hope I have given you enough information.

Oh Yes ! I use a lot of those little [pts. Micro Miniatures, suckers, bloom stalk/baskets !
I buy them from my favorite pot store
Same place I get my 2 inch rounds, 3 inch round/both sturdy, pan pots ( I like white but forgot to order white pan pots last time)
And much more :))
The little pots are only 4 cents each !
1 3/4 inch round, black

$.04 each $3.75 per 100 $17.50 per 500
I like I can wick them, Or the holes on sides of them are perfect for them drinking water ~
And I have way to many over grown suckers in them I need to transplant !
You can order from here up to $ 100.00 and pay only $ 10.00 shipping. I only buy theses now 100 at a time but think Laurie bought a hundred.
So you may want to ask her though shipping from Ca. is most expensive. Or place an order of different sizes yourself !

Oh yes while your shopping for pots check out their great plants !

Silver Spring, MD

Thanks, Allison. I will give them a call this afternoon.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Check out their other sizes their Pan Pots are called Bulb Pots. They come in a couple sizes of Green or white . And they have plant food and their 3 inch round sturdy white pots are super too. With all the babies and minis I like growing I do go threw the 2 inch by the hundreds. But they are the cheapest I have been able to find :))

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks so much for this link! I think I will also be making an order soon. I have to figure out what I want first, there is so much to choose from...and their prices are terrific! I already saved their site to my favorites. These pots aren't just for AVs, they are for seed starting, transplanting seedlings into...anything you need. I'm afraid to look around the site too much tho...I know I'll find too much stuff I want. LOL

Heather

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Great Heather ! Yes their good for everything :))
I think I may order a few plants. I like some of their Bromilaids too :)) and more !
Allison

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I did venture around the site. I knew better! Their Bromeliads are gorgeous! I love the pink ones. I have a new found love for Bromeliads and want to start a collection, I only have one so far, but that's a start! It has a baby, so maybe that counts as 2? LOL

They also have some really nifty looking terra cotta pots listed under garden art and accesories. I love original looking terra cotta things that look like you found them at an old farm. They have a terra cotta watering can planter for $12.95 that I want to get. It's 7" tall. Here's a pic. I've never seen one like this before. How cute!

Real cute Heather. I didn't spend much time on the site. Had to go shopping with my daughter. It was our 3 month canned food shelf filler day.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh I love it ! I must go back to look. Thier plant prices are not bad . And I would like one of the pink Bromeliads :))

Didn't mean to get you into trouble!! Their stuff is nice. I really like the 'Pink Starlite' too, that's the one I want. It's a really cute one, and the price is great. If I do order pots I might get it too. If you don't get it and I do I'll send you a baby when it has them! I'll let you know! :-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes if I get one and get a baby I can share too. Those two with the pink I'd love to get :)) The price is right ! I order pots by the hundreds , sometimes thousand many, many times. Just middle of March and I'm getting low again. so I will be ordering soon I may get one or two of these pink pretties !

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

You have a deal! :) If you do order one let me know and I'll get a different one....I'll do the same w/ letting you know if I order, that way we won't get the same thing to trade if we both order.

I'm hoping to order, but I'm not certain I will get anything. It depends on a few things. I need pots, and those are best prices I've seen, but there's other stuff we need too.....like food. LOL!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

OK sounds great. I am goingto need more pots soon and be nice to get one of the pretty plants !

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm getting ready to order right now. My dh is such a sweety and spoils me whenever he can. I wanted to order 100 4" pots for transplanting up to. I just spent a lot of $ at Wal-Mart on plant stuff last night. I was showing him the website w/ prices and pot sizes and he kept looking at my plant stand and making a funny face...I thought he was going to tell me no...or at least to wait till next payday. Instead he told me I better order 200 pots! LOL! :-D I have to double check that 4" is the size I need. Any suggestions? I want to use them for growing seedlings, when they are too big for the jiffy greenhouses but too small for outside in the ground. I'm hoping this way I'll only have to transplant each thing once. Sound like the right size to you all?

Allison, what plant were you planning on getting? I can't decide between the two cheaper pink Bromes. The $35 is a little too expensive for right now, I don't want to take advantage of my dh's generosity...and I actually like the other ones a little better too. I was going to get "Pink Starlight", because I think it's prettier, but I'm going to order CRYPTANTHUS BIVITTATUS 'IT' instead. I'm putting in a tropical garden (well, starting it) for my dh this year and that's where I'd like to put this. This just has a better feel for a trop garden I think. My garden is shaping up to be an English/Cottage garden and Pink Starlight would be gorgeous there! Plus I think it would be funny to have a plant named 'IT'. LOL. Let me know what you think Allison. I'll wait to hear from you before I order. This will be a fun swap! (BTW, if something goes wrong w/ the swap, don't worry, we can call it off. I'd still be ordering this plant and be happy to send you some!)

I'll probably order more from these folks, I just don't know when. Their plants have such great prices and they have some stuff that's hard to find! Thanks so much for sharing their site w/ us!!
Heather

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi Heather !
I'm not sure what size pots are good for your seedlings as i buy them mostly for my African violets and Gesneriads. I but the tiny smallest 4 cent size, 2 inch ( these i use a lot for baby African violets ans miniatures) . 3 inch white round sturdy i like , 4 inch, pan pots ( they call them bulb pans ) . This is what i use the most.
I think that will be a great plant for your garden ! Sounds so pretty . I can get the other and hope we get babies we can trade :))
I also like to get some other plants from them once in awhile they do have wonderful plants and great prices.
When you get it take a picture please :))

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I will definately send pics. I love to take pics of my flowers.

All right, if all that sounds good to you then I'm going to order tonight. I'll have to double check on the size of my pots somewhere. I have some here that I could measure if I could figure out how they measure a pot!! I've never been able to figure that out! The pots I have do have markings on the bottom, but they are in metric...I'll just have to find someplace on the web that converts that to inches for me. DH is at work and he's my usuall conversion tool...he can do it in his head.

I'll let you know when the order comes in! Thanks again!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Do you have a tape measure ? Do you grow African violets too ? Depending on what you grow you may want some smaller pots too ?

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I figured it out sooo quick! Googled "convert metric to US" and found a site to convert everything metric to US measurements! All you do is click on what you want to convert and then put in the amount of your measurement and hit the "convert" button. It tells you the answer! The pots I have here marked 100mm are 3.94 inches...so basically they are a 4" pot. That's just what I want!

I do have a tape measure. Can you tell me how to measure a pot and get the size it is? Some are so easy to tell, others I can't for the life of me figure out how they got their measurement size. Especially bigger pots.

I've started most of my AV leaves in 4" pots and that's what I grow my AVs in also. I did just got some 5 oz. Solo cups recently and am planning on starting leaves in them from now on. That will save me a lot of room, plus will probably be better for the leaves. I use a wood burner to put drainage holes in them. That's stinky, but quick and easy.

Most of these pots will be used for seedlings. If the 4" pots are too big for some things I'll use the 5 oz. Solo cups instead. I've used the Solo cups for some Coleus seedlings and they are working great! By the time the pots get here the Coleus should be ready to go into them.

Now I've just got to go tally up my order and submit it! ;-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Have fun ordering ! I love even gettig a pot order and your going to get a cool prety neat plant too :)
Have fun Allison :))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Heatherjoy, I also order from secretgardensrareplants for pots, but my last order took about a month to arrive. Maybe they were out of town or something else came up, but I sent four or five email with no reply, and phoned them too. the first # on their web site was disconnected so I really started to worry and just about the time I was going to file a fraud report, the box arrived!

So don't worry if it takes a while, they ship large (and mine was a large order since I have begonias to pot up too) via parcel post.

They are a good company, but not so hot on the communication, at least at the time I last ordered two or two and a half months ago.

my first order arrived in about two and half weeks and they did reply to email. so it must have been that they were out of town or something.
Just didn't want you to worry if your shipment takes awhile.

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks so much for the heads up! I did check them out in the garden watchdog and saw that someone else had said the same thing. Makes you wonder, huh?

I wrote them before I ordered to make sure what I wanted was in stock...and to speed up my order process. Hopefully it works! :)

Allison, I did order the 'IT' plant. LOL, I love that name. I think my dh will like it just because of it's name if nothing else! He's not real into my kind of plants, but he's always loved tropicals...his Mom had them when he was a kid growing up in CA. That's why I want to put in the trop garden for him. Maybe he'll feel like a kid again!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Heather
I have been ordering from them a couple years and my orders are all pretty fast. Most times if I order Thursday or Friday I have my order on Monday. Being I am in Florida their shipping is Priority to me. One time they only had 400 of the 2 inch pots I had ordered 500 and they did email me and say they could refund or send the other 100 when more stock came in. I told them I could wait for the other 100 pots. The first part of my order was shipped ASP. The rest came a week later.
~ Not like when my other pot place I order I had free shipping but opted ( if you buy over 75.00) to pay for fast Priority Mail as I needed them ASP and told them this. Took me little over two weeks as they said they were short pots I needed and never contacted me.
So I have always been real pleased with Secret Gardens that's why I highly reccomend them !
I know when ever I ship to CA it cost more $$ and Priority even takes longer. And They only charge $ 10.00 for $100.00 of sales which is excellent as pots can be heavy. Laurie didn't you tell me your shipping cost on your pots were way higher than they even charged you for shipping ! And as cheap as their pots are I don't know how they can lose money on shipping ?? I do know Parcel Post to CA can take forever. When I use to order VF_!! from Eleanor's by the case from CA and she ships cheap way it would take a good month and half to get my order .

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think I will order a small pot order Heather and get the other pink plant :)) And hope for babies to share with you !

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for the info Allison. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with when someone places an order? Any nursery is going to be overloaded w/ orders this time of year and possibly could be running behind, we shouldn't be surprised, especially w/ these prices. I don't mind waiting in most cases...and with these prices I really can't complain!! :)

Last year I ordered Mandevillas off of eBay at a great price and waited a month to get them...but that was ok w/ me, they were a 1/3 the price of what I would have paid locally. Great plants too!

I better get busy and get some more seeds started and get ready to use up these pots!!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Yes, on one box the shipping was $50! and I can't remember the other, but it was a lot! I guess living all the way on the other end of the states makes for the slow parcel post delivery. Ali, you living in FL likely is why you get them so fast.

The first shipment came faster and they emailed me right away, but I just got worried on the second order since it had taken over three week and they wouldnt return my email or calls.

Lo and behold the pots arrived. So I'm not saying they are a bad company, but wanted heathrjoy to knwo it might take some time to get the pots.

I think we get spoiled with priority mail and fedex and whem we have to wait more than a week for something we aren't used to it! LOL.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh my goodness just think though Laurie they lost money big time on shipping to you. Yikes $ 50.00 ten charged. Can you imagine if they charged you exact Priority shipping cost would have been very high. To me they do ship Priority Mail. I still don't get how they ship so cheap.

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

$50!!?? Holy Cows!! That is a hard call. It took 3 weeks, but they paid $40 for shipping and you paid $10. I think that's one of those, "I could complain IF..." things.

I haven't gotten an e-mail back from them that they've gotten my order, and I probably would be concerned if you hadn't told me not to worry. Especially if I hadn't of sent them the other e-mail first. But, today is Sunday...no one should have to work on Sunday. I won't worry about it, I trust you gals!

Could shipping to CA take so long because they have to inspect things that come from a nursery out of state? My in-laws live in CA, so we know how that works....well, kinda. I did notice on the shipping page that they said something about getting certified for shipping to CA. Since they aren't certified I'd assume anything they ship has to be inspected and would take longer...and cost more. Right now it says they don't ship to CA.

When you say Priority, do you mean Priority Mail from the USPS? Their site says they ship UPS. Hmmm. That's confusing!! LOL. I wonder how mine will come? As long as it gets here I really don't care!

I'll let everyone know when I hear from them and when I get my order. I'm sure they will do just fine. I really do appreciate the heads up tho!
Heather

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Heather If they have yours in stock you will most likely have it some time this week :)) I can't wait to see your plant ! Which one did you get ? I think I will order the other :)) With some more 2 ", 3" and pan pots ! I just love pink in the foliage of plants. I've been looking at their other plants and sure I will be getting more . Most can grow outside year round here :))

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I think the shipping referres only to plants and when I asked them, they said they are certified now and they must just need to update their web site.

I do think they must be losing money based on the shipping rate. Maybe I read the shipping label wrong, but that's what I think it was. Hmmm.?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL I may end up ordering some of their plants to :) They have some truly great plants on that site and the prices are not bad at all :)

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Allison, I got the
Cat. No: 435 CRYPTANTHUS BIVITTATUS 'IT'
Beautiful large red and white variegated foliage grows larger than 'Pink Starlite'.

4 inch pots $9.95

I thought that would be nice for Mark's tropical Garden. Since he's been giving me money hand over fist lately I thought it'd be nice if I actually ordered something for him!! LOL. You get whatever one you want to get tho!

Laurie,
Well, if your shipping was $50 they certainly did lose money! I'll have to check my lable out really good when it arrives. Right now my e-mail isn't working, so they may have mailed me and I wouldn't even know it!

I looked around their site too much tho, I really did. I think I looked at nearly every page except for the Cactus page. I can't have Cactus. Too ouchy for kitties and too cold outside. Their prices are great, they just need more pics...but you can look up the pics on PlantFiles. I just told someone else that on Frugal Living...they wanted to know an inexpensive place for great plants...sent them there.

I want some of their Lantana. It's hard to find here until mid-summer, it's sold as an annual. I saw someone here on DG trained one in a pot as a standard last year and I really want to try that, but I'd need my plant early...and a good strong, straight main stem. I have a few Lantana seeds that I didn't get started, and I have to send an SASE for more. That's probably what I'll end up doing. But, their's are gorgeous...and mexican petunias. Oh, I could go on all day! If I remember correctly the Lantana was only $3.95!

I know I'll order from them again and again. Once that Brome starts to grow I'll be hooked! LOL This is the pic of the one I'm getting. It looks like 'IT's having a bad hair day. His name is really 'IT'. That cracks me up!

Oh it is so beautiful ! It looks like it is in a hanging basket :)) I might just have to buy both sense they other one I can get in a smaller pot for less $$/ Yes I know if I fall in love with these two I will be ordering a plant or two every time it's pot time which I use a lot of :)) I like everyone to get their plants from me in new pots !
I have been looking at all their plants. Even Ferns which normaly I would not be interested in their plants are so pretty cute and low cost I would love to try some :))
I can find some good plants for our deck / ramp too ! So much fun just looking but the Pink beauties I fell madly in love with !
Allison

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh yes isn't it wonderful how you can look up plants and their pictures on plant files !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Heather I saw http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/100808/index.html
This one oh man I think it's the other pink one and I saw the 'Pink Starlite' one on Plant Files too :))
Lorry what was the name of the CRYPTANTHUS plant you sent me ?

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for the info. I didn't know they called these ones Earth Stars. That's neat too.
