This week at the Memorial University Botanical Garden

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

We had a cold weekend in St. John's but the last two days have been 13 C so the plants are responding. This week the dwarf daffs have peaked in the bulb frame. Last week the Topolino were in bloom; now we have Tete-a-Tete

and Aethionema oppositifolia. Lots of primula coming into bud so there should be lots to show in the next week or two.

Hi Todd
You must be getting busy at work ,with the seasons opening so close.
Those van winkles are very showy, mine are still in the bud stage.
That tulip i cant tell from the pic but doze it have a red vain on the other side of the petal that bleeds through the petal.
I have that one 'man it's a nice looking tulip very tuff as will.Gees cant rember its name right now ,mmmmmmm i think its call Blushing Beauty i thank thats it or something like it.

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

Most plants in the bulb frame are about a week to 10 days ahead of those outdoors although my Tulipa kaufmanniana are blooming now outside. Blushing beauty does have the red stripe on the outside while those at the Garden are just plain cream.

Gees thay look almost alike very nice all the same.
I have a question for you ,you must be sick of me asking you stuff.
Will anyways do we have a native trillum here in newfoundland,i kind of think we do im not sure but we call a plant ckaker berries thats not a trillum is it.

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

Our crackers are Cornus canadensis, NOT a trillium. We DO have a native Trillium called T. cernuum, the nodding trillium. It is not very common overall.

Thanks my friend.I thought we did have one but wasn't sure.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Thanks, Todd. I've gotta get some of those Rip Van Winkles. Very showy.

Ann

Potsdam, NY(Zone 4a)

I did not order Rip Van Winkle in last year's order. They are very pretty. I have some assorted daffodils and one does look like Tete a Tete. Would like to order some Irene Copeland to add to the border, too. I bought bicolor grape hyacinths and had no idea how big those are by comparison! average around eight inches tall! Have had spring blooms for a month now, and more to go. I like it! BAM

I just noticed the Aethionema Oppositifolia ,what a pretty looking plant
the purple tint to the flower realy sets it off so nicely.
If i went to buy that bulb what name would i look under, not it's latin name common name i mean

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

That one is not a bulb, its a perennial alpine plant.

ohhhhhhhhh even better,so doze that mean it can be grown from seed.
It would look assum in a rock garden.
