Finally, after 8 months

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

My bird of paradise has bloomed.

I didn't realise that when it opened, it opened all at once. It was a real surprise to come back from a day trip to Vancouver, seeing it closed this morning, and then coming home to find this! It's on the south facing deck, and I see that I really need to clean the windows! There is another bloom spike coming, about 1/2 the size of the one that bloomed. Now the question is how long does the flower last??? Anyone know?

No idea but it's gorgeous Linda! Ü

The blooms last quite a while. It's wonderful. I'm waiting for my strelitzia alba to bloom. It's hitting the top of the conservatory but not blooms yet.

It's fabulous!! How lucky you are .. is the whole plant big? The ones Ive seen outside in California were quite large.
