I am quite sure there is a thread or thousand about this because when I searched the forums, it returned over 7000 threads in just this forum. LOL I am afraid I'll damage the seed inside the cork, so am looking for advice. Do you soak them first or what? I also googled it, and gathered that some are just too brittle to try to peel, so am kind of lost.
Thanks for any and all help.
Sharon
how do you peel brugmansia seeds
The one time I soaked the seed, I damaged the some of the seed so I don't soak any more. The seed seems to be hard enough to withstand a fingernail.

I can tell you how I do it. I have the seed dry and then I just take my thumb nail and start peeling the cork off. Go slow and just take a bit off at first till you get the hang of it. Usually it breaks just where the seed meets the cork. On occasion I can stick my nail thru the inner seed but that is rare.
If you try to do the seed wet it usually is too slimy to be able to peel it.
I never soak my seed unless they are very old. I do seal my container in a damp plastic bag though to increase the humidity and make like a mini greenhouse.
GOOD LUCK! I hope you get them all to germinate.
Kell,
Do you put the seeds in the plastic bag for a while, or are you talking about after you put the seeds in the medium?
Sharon
Hi Sharon. No after I put it in the medium. I use rockwool, but you can do the same if you use dirt. Ithen place the bag under the lights on my seedling rack.
OK - Got it. I will carefully peel the seeds with my fingernails and then put in medium, then in plastic bag. Now, where I'm gonna put that is interesting - greenhouse is getting too hot. Maybe on the patio, out of direct sun.
If it gets too hot, it will cook inside the bag. I used to start them on my windowsill, but not in a hot southern exposure.
