Thanks to Dianne Landry I received a beautiful 8 inch pot of hoya curtsii! It's an EA and I'm debating if I'm going to re-pot it or not. Thank you so much Dianne!!

I just re-potted it into my potting soil. I took off as much EA soil as possible, it was like removing mud!

Oh, oh...Dianne, will you be my friend?
I lost my old curtisii...I would LOVE one like you sent Awanda.
She will (I hope) vouch for me...we live in the same general area, altho I don't have the hoya expertise she has...I'm definitely still learning!!!

Sharon

If you find one...let me know the price and shipping costs...plus
I can send you some cuttings, altho I don't know if I have any that you would want!
Don't feel obligated, tho...don't want to put you out any...
but oooh, that's a gorgeous plant!!!

Thanks for the tip, Dianne! I'll grovel with my SIL and see if I can get her to drive to LaFayette and see what she can dig up for me. I'm still in the market for some 'common' stuff....pretty much anything but Carnosas!

Nice Awanda :)

I recently went to my local nursery which never has any hoyas besides brevialata and KP, and I found a curtisii in an 8" pot (looks just like yours Awanda), a HUGE multiflora with about 50 peduncles (8" pot), nummularioides, brevialata, KP, and a large polyneura in an 8" pot. I was in shock to find those EA plants in a local nursery. There was also a GINORMOUS carnosa KQ in full bloom (about 10 umbels)....it was really nicely displayed on 2 criss-crossed bamboo trellises. It was 50 bucks...I already have one, but it's not in bloom, so it took a lot for me to not get it!

Anyway, I bought the curtisii and multiflora. I have had great luck with EA plants (knock on wood)....I haven't lost any yet. I just take the bottom saucer off and let them completely dry out, and I'm very careful with watering. Lately I've been finding EA plants that are completely rootbound, so maybe that's why I've been having lots of luck (there's practically no "mud"...just roots). If there are just a bunch of cuttings in a pot (instead of a cohesive plant), I would think it's better to repot and get rid of that mud. So Awanda, keep us updated on how it does!

look what I found at home depot about an hour ago!!

I was bidding on one on ebay but it got snatched right out from under my nose at the last minute. I totally hate when people do that and sometimes it's done just out of spite by people who dont even need or want the plant to begin with. Not that that was the case this time but it has happened to me before by someone whom I knew already had the hoya that I was bidding on. Swooped right out from under me just for spite!!!!

Oh well guess it all boils down to whos willing to spend the most money!!!

Please meet Mr. H. curtisii......!!!!!

I've had that happen too, Dmichael - it is irritating!!!! Meanwhile, what a great find. I found one about a year ago at HD and I still have it growing in it's EA soil - I let mine get just about dry before I water it, so far so good. I, of course, will be seething with envy if you manage to get yours to bloom before mine (which will probably happen). Enjoy!!!

Ohhh me too, I was recently bidding on a beautiful 6 inch pot of serpens that Antone listed on Ebay. I lost it in the last 11 seconds, but that was ok, I have a really little one, but loved the specimen size of that one.

I really hope that whoever bought it doesn't chop it up into multiple plants....that would be downright devestating...... :(

I found one of those curtisii's at our home depot today, and my friend was thrilled to buy it for herself!! I already have two of those potted up together.

Oh well,
S

Don't worry Sara, I'm not going to cut the Serpens up into small plants. I lost out on the darwinii in the last couple of seconds, but that's the name of the game. There are no guarentees on winning when we bid, that's why it's called an auction:-). Win some, lose some.

Why Awanda, you naughty little sneak :-)
I didn't know that was you. Why did you change your ebay name from ACsAgapePlants to godiswonderful777?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

True, Awanda....very true. However, I happen to know that many here will not undercut or try to slam out someone on ebay if they are friends or known to them on this forum. I have debated that philosophy with myself...as I have wanted to bid on a plant when I see a friend/forum member has already bid on it.... Color me silly or stupid - but I will not squabble (using money as a tool) with a friend. I usually write the seller and ask if he/she has any other to sell. Or I write the friend and ask for a cutting.

Yes, I know...diferrent strokes for different folks. Maybe that's what makes people different...I don't know.

Carol

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

There are several people on this forum that I have communicated off/online with for awhile, and would not bid against, everyone else is fair game:-). There are so many that come and go on this forum and other forums it's difficult to keep up with and know who everyone is. If I didn't want it, I certainly wouldn't bid just to keep someone else from having it. That's money to use towards our trip back to Hawaii, or buying more hoyas:-). I won't try and guess why someone outbid me, or take it personal. We're not that well off that I can afford to bid just to keep someone else from having it, but more power to those who are:-).

Blessings,
Awanda

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Ohhhhh Awanda, congratulations on your big win!! Please don't think that I lost any sleep over the serpens....If I had wanted it too bad, I would have had a much higher maximum bid. I too didn't realize you were the high bidder, congratulations on your beautiful new plant! I guess if you were going incognito, you might have to change your ebay ID again.

Thank you for letting me know how auctions work, but I did figure out the winning/loosing concept ages ago.........I actually grew up attending antique and estate auctions with my parents, so I know how to bid on things in person too. :)

Yes, it is always good not to take things personal.....that's why we grew up never talking money, politics, or religion with friends.

Dr. K & Sara, I changed my ebay name due to concerns from ebay, wasn't trying to go "incognito":-).

LOL Sara!!! Minus a square jaw and some boy parts, you make a good Batman!! I'll be Robin, but I'd rather be the Weekly World News' Bat Boy - seems much more insane than Robin ever did.
:-)

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Ann and Sara - LOL with visuals of you two in tights and capes - Hoya Batman and Asclepias Robin???

Karen

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Absolutely brilliant Karen!!! That is exactly who we are!! Ann, you absolutely can be the insane sidekick.

The only hitch in the whole scheme - TIGHTS are wayyyyy too close to pantyhose, and I really hate anything like that! I could live with black leggings though!!

HBM (Hoya Batman)

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Pantyhose and bras are the bane of my existence (now Dmichael ... don't you touch that with a 10-foot pole)! Except for shaving the facial hair, boys have it so much easier.

I am not sure, Karen, if we should have capes however. Remember what happened to a few of the superhero's who had capes in The Incredibles! In the words of my hero, the immortal Edna "E" Mode, "No Capes!" (LOL!)

IHRSE (Insane Hoya Robin the Sidekick Extraordinaire)*

*yes, we do believe she has lost all of her marbles, but she is a nice cheeky sort of gal, so we continue to let her play

Sorry...decided that wisdom is the better part of valor...

Holy Hoya Batman!! Ohhhhh but Carol, this thread has such HUGE potential for fun!!!

Mark.....I think that STEMMA is ready for a comic strip. The Grand Adventures of Hoya Batman and Asclepias Robin" We will forever battle the evil forces of the Mealy Menace, and the fiendish Arachnid Mites.......

Um Ann, you are light years (HA!) head of me, I guess I was still stuck in the mode of "Superfriends", and not the "Incredibles". I better get with the times if I am going to keep up.......the shame my kids would feel if only they knew. HeHeHe
