Looking to Purchase/trade for Lg amt of Water Hyacinth

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

Any of you ponders way down south getting overrun with water Hyacinth yet? I need it badly. Willing to trade, pay postage or purchase large amount, like 50 plants or more. My pond is pea-soupy and getting too warm for the Koi so need the shade from the Hyacinth. You can look in my journal under plants available for trade.
Thanks,
Lana

Hi Lana,

I have a large watering trough full of purple hyacinth. They over-wintered here and multiplied ten fold. There must be several thousand in there. I would be happy to send you some. I didn`t see your trade list, just the sub and substance hostas. Let me know if you are still looking for them.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I have some water lettuce for postage if interested.

Just curious if you knew owning water hyacinth is on the federal law noxious weed list? Fine is 1000 dollars per plant.? Just thought let you know if you didn't.

Only in certain states.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

I think in Texas you can have it as long as you contain it (don't release it into a body of water).

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

It's certainly not on any list here in WV since the winters kill it but I know it is illegal to ship it to most southern states or if you have it to release it into any waterway.

Thanks! Let me know what you'd like.

It is illegal to possess it in Texas. Copied from the website
"The State of Texas doesn't just frown on the possesion of harmful or potentially harmful exotic plants. It is illegal to posses these plants in Texas. Possession of any prohibited plant species is a Class B Parks and Wildlife Code Misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $200 nor more than $2000, a jail term not to exceed 180 days, or both a fine AND imprisonment. Each individual plant of a prohibited species constitutes a separate violation.
The law applies to everyone: aquatic plant producers and distributors, garden centers, pond supply stores, pet stores, and individual pondkeepers. So if Joe Ponder is caught with 10 water hyacinth in his backyard pond, that would be 10 separate violations, with potential fines totalling $20,000 "

Here is a list, looks like 13 plants are on it http://www.ntwgs.org/articles/illegalAquatics.html

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

it is iilegal here in south carolina and georgia. it was in the paper a few months ago saying its illegal to own ship or even have it in any form here.

i live on the border of both states . you cant even own it. if they find out they will destroy it and fine you up to 5000.00 and a year in jail.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Alabama, Louisiana,Florida, Georgia,California,Arizona,South Carolina and Texas will fine and possibly jail you for owning or propagating it. Federal law can nail you for propagating , transporting, selling it. I think I'd look for another plant. I can see the jailhouse conversation now. " Hey bud what you in for ? "

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Here is the link I got it from. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ppq/weeds/nwposter.pdf

I had mailed some out before I joined here and someone else wanted some. I got to thinking about if, if I was mailing it somewhere where it was not permited. And I found this poster where it is federally outlawed. I was just wanting to let you know.

Blessings,
