Laurie What did you say was the name ? It's blooming !
O/T Laurie What did you say was the name ? It's blooming !
Plectranthus! It might be p. amboinicus variegated
Isn't she pretty ! Thanks Laurie. It's her first year to flower. I cut her down like you said while visitng !
you can easily root the cuttings too for trades etc. They're easy to grow and one of my favorites! I have about 10 different varieites.
Yes didn't you give me two more little cuttings ? Their real big now in the garden ! :))
Did you lose this one ? I can send you some !
Do you have pictures of your others ? Have any flowered ?
i have an itttttty bittttty little cutting of what's left. I have it in the perlite tray and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Most have flowered except this one giant one called Lemon Lime. It's a yellow/green leaved variegated one that has leaves as big as apples and grows to about 2.5' tall. I have photos somewhere, but never named them so it would take me a while to find them. I have over 5000 photos on my computer! so there's no telling where it is.
wont be long now and they'll be sprouting again! maybe you can make me a start and when you get caught up on your shipments it will have roots.
Lemon Lime sounds real pretty !
It is very pretty! I love to put them in my pots with annuals since the foliage is always a great backdrop to the splash of color during the summer. I like to mix perennial grasses too. (like stipa tenuissima!)
Sounds really pretty :)) LIttle pice got dugged up with some of my other bebonia the ones with the pretty pink flowers ! Their growing together . Now I have like three good sections of this plant growing and blooming ! And Hubby plants a good size Eyelash Begonia plant outside for me !
Super!!
I had that big one a few years back, Lali.....it's really unusual, isn't it?!
It was one of those 'stinky' ones, though, lol!!
Nice job, Allison!!
stinky????
Laurie, those cuttings you sent me that have scented leaves are all plectanthrus?
I love their smell!
Some of them smell downright good, some of them smell like Vicks or Mentholatum, and some of them (to me, anyway.....could be in the nose of the 'beholder', lol!) stink, but usually only when brushed against or 'bruised'.
The foliage is worth it though!
Yes it has a smell. Laurie sent me two cutting from different ones . Their good sie plants now !
This one my Aunt gave me a small 4 inch pot few years ago. I loved it for it's variegation.
Last year I planted it in the ground. It grew well 4 x's the size it is in picture. Then it looked like someone stepped on smashing it down. Laurie told me cut dead piece off . Now it's grow back. First time blooming !
I went to plant files think mine looks like " Plectranthus, Spurflower 'Marginatus' (Plectranthus forsteri)"
Mine ia grown in Floridas hot sun or the green would be darker.
I'm addicted to them! Some do smell good and some are down right yuk! I have one that is also called a coleus but I think it leans more toward the plecs myself. Any way it smells like a cross between a skunk and an illegal herb! you know what I mean!
But for a foliage plant, they can't be beat. my Iboza is insane! It's huge right now. I wintered it over in the greenhouse and it's already like 4' long.
Oh wow..that is GORGEOUS!
I usually pinch off the flowers on my Plectranthus...it seems the plants really go 'downhill' after they bloom.....this one, though, has prettier flowers than foliage.

I have that one. I got it at Annie's Annuals. She has a few real neat ones. www.anniesannuals.com
It's only about an hour from my house.
very pretty :))
How have you found that one....easy? difficult? about the same as the others?
I've found P. oertendahlii to be kind of 'picky'.
Mine was in a small pot when my Aunt gave it to me. And last year I planted it in the garden and it grows like a weed . And Laurie gave me cuttings of two others I rooted them and grew them inside until they were a good size. Now they are outside growing just as wonderful !
I don't really find any of them to be to difficult, they must really like our weather here. I did leave 'Vicks Plant' out this winter and lost it. But otherwise, they root fast, grow fast and bloom their heads off. I do find that they don't want to be on the wet side.
Yes their almost like a Succulent which is good as it's so hot here and rained once sense Jan. even when you water the ground dries fast but they do real well !
