My spreader wasn't adjusted properly and a part of my lawn got burnt from big ol' spurts of fertilizer, called weed n' feed. I should've watered it down but didn't think it would burn so severely. Oops.
I was about to put down some more grass seed for those spots, and my neighbor came out and said to just water it and the "roots are still there, it will come back". Is this true?
The grass is totally dead, I'm looking at just soil here after raking. I am not sure of the type of grass it is, since we have moved in, we've put down a variety of grass seed including fescue and some mixes for shade in our zone 7 lawn.
Burnt the lawn with weed and feed, will it grow back?
It is probably true that you have good roots but it is also true that you have too many salts (inorganic fertilizer) in the soil. You need to water the heck out of it for a couple of weeks to leach out the salts. Also I would top dress it with peat or compost to restart the soil bacteria you have dammaged. Another good thing to use is sawdust it will use the excess nitrogen you have dumped and help make more soil. 1/4 to 1/2 inch of sawdust would be good and sprinkly seeds in about a month if nothing is growing.
