What is the name of this plant?

Pismo Beach, CA

This plant is short, shrub-like, with yellow-green, smooth, oval-shaped leaves. It blossomed beautiful, red flowers in early April, covering the bush profusely with its red flowers. Would like to obtain some and plant in CA. Help!

That's an azalea I believe. It should do great in your zone.

An azalea, Gwen? Hm-m-m, I have an azalea plant already, but it doesn't have the smooth, almost succulent plant feel to it like these growing in WA. BTW--Azaleas don't like me; despite watering and soil amending (to keep it acid-loving), the plant has done nothing for me in the 2 yrs I've had it...

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it's an azalea, one of the few plants I can ID on sight. LOL Try another one! There are different types... some like shade and some are happy in sun. Are you near the ocean? I don't think they tolerate salt too well but there are others who are experts. Read up on them and try a different type from the one you have now.

Call me crazy, but I swear that plant looks a lot like this one...

No doubt whatsoever, that is an azalea, an evergreen variety.

Yes it is a Azalea. I came home to find my 4 in full bloom. what a difference a week can make.

A plant that is covered in blooms like this one is can hardly be said to "do nothing for you" LOL ~Blooms

Is this a plant that is easy to propagate by clipping? My friend has several of them that she has been meaning to give haircuts to and if I can get free plants out of it, then YAY!

Thank you for any replies!

Yes, it can be propigated by cuttings. The best time is right after bloom. Go for it Marion!

Lakebay, WA

Woohoo! Oh, wait, that means I can't stop by her house tonight and start cutting! I have to wait what will seem like EONS for the blooms to fall off. Hmmpf! Well, I just might try some tonight anyways. Gives me a chance to eye what else she has for me to snip at :-P

I have been eyeing Weigela as well, but I'm afraid to order from SpringHillNursery.com until after they have resolved my current fiasco -- I bought 2 of the never ending perennial gardens from them (50% off and I couldnt' pass up the bargain) and one box was half dead and the other box was supposedly shipped but hasn't arrived and it's a week after the first was shipped (they said they shipped them on the same day). I don't mind the smallness of the plants, but some of them had absolutely no root systems on them.
