Yard Ducks

These 2 duckies prefer my gardens and yard to the ponds that they have access to..They love the slugs and grub worms I throw them..They also forage on their own and leave fertilizer as they go, lol..

Ducks are cute but they can be quite troublesome. My neighbor has ducks and though he has 3 ponds they prefer my pond which is paractically in my back yard, and they get out of the pond and go into my yard where they eat my dogs' feed and stick their bill in the dirt then put it in my dog's water bowl and get it nasty, though they have a large pond to play in. They keep the water in the pond stirred up and a nasty brown muddy color and they are eating much of the plant life that I enjoyed around the pond bank and in the shallow water. My guess is that they are eating the baby frogs, tadpoles and eggs which help to control mosquitoes. I guess I am going to have to set a trap to catch them. I just can't take it anymore. My father in law told my neighbor about it and he said just shoot them if they were a problem but I am wondering if he or his wife really meant that down deep, and if they would hold some resentment if we really did shoot them, so I guess I will just trying trapping them first.

They are messy, and I know I can't have them here. But I do love the little nuts. They're lovely, Larkie.

Duckwing, if the ducks belong to the neighbors, you should not even have to trap them. It is their responsibility. Call the animal control, and report it. BAM

Duckwing,
I live on many acres of family farm land.. No neighbor's except, Mama and sister, lol..+They moved out here knowing I had all these nasty critters.. Thank the lord I live where I can have them..In town or with close neighbor's, never.. Mine also have several huge natural ponds on our property to enjoy, but they prefer my goldfish pond and mud puddles..Also the goat and chicken water troughs..Yes they are nasty..If not for the dogs I would have them up on the porches, they give it a try every now and then...Muck boots are a must out in these sticks..

Duckwing,

you stated that the ducks were eating the frogs and tadpoles and such. with the assumption that they(frogs and tadpoles and such) are controlling the mosquitoes do you have an increase in the mosquitoes population. I ask because I have been considering ducks and through all the research( I am not knowledgeable in duck raising) I hae gone through so far Ducks are supposed to help control the mosquitoes. Maybe they prefer your pond because of food supply it provides them. Just wondering, not defending or attacking.

sincerely, Calvin
