Can I plant "spring" bulbs now?

Can I plant "spring" bulbs now? We seem to postpone fall bulb planting until the very last minute - and sometimes we miss the last minute by weeks! We'd like more bulbs where the perennials will come up later, but we're afraid of disturbing their roots. (Our garden isn't old enough to want dividing.) We're in the middle of getting a lot of mail order perennials and it would be wonderful if we could stick some daffodils or crocuses or grape hyacinths in while we're digging and backfilling. I know this is not the traditional time of year to plant them but what the hey, I plant flowers in the fall, when they're on sale. Will they be ok over the summer? Any ideas on where I could get traditionally "spring-flowering" bulbs now? Any down side to our crazy backwards schedule, except that pretty soon I may start typing and even speaking backwards?

I force bulbs and plant them in spring. You can tell what their suroundings will be this way - what else is in
bloom nearby and what the color mix looks like. My old neighbor called it cheating but I think its smart
gardening!
