Thank you very much Allison, what a lovely plant teddy bear is!

I love my Alsobia you sent me. I already have three babies growing off their mom.

Allison, do episcias and alsobias need the same amount of light as AVs? do you feed them the same way? thank you.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Allison - is Teddy Bear an Episcia?? Very cute!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks everyone. Alsobias like 12-16 hours of light heavy feeders and like it moist and humid will give you endless flowers ! I use to have room for mine on my stand now I don't. So they are all in natural light ..
all my plants episcias , Chirita's, Begonia everyone grows in the same soil-less mix everyone is happy.
Chiritas and Strep like dry side.
Epicias I find like it more moist. They grow super well in natural light but give them some humdit and light and they will bloom crazy for you. I find my Epicias needing so much to drink I am pouring 5 oz. cup or two into their pots a day. Don't forget it's warmer now, longer days, everything is growing rapid, blooming and needing more watering and food !
Did your box come today Spider ?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I got a beauty of an Episcia in the mail today, 'Moolight Valley' and it has a nice stolon with aerial roots so that puppy is going in the propagating tray (insurance) - I've fallen in love with episcias! Ali, maybe I can beg a few starts of your T.E Bear? (pretty please?)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW 'Moolight Valley' is a gorgous plant ! I've always dreamed of her :))
Sure Laurie when I catch up and ship you a box I have a plant of Teddy Bear to jump in for you :)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Isn't it though!? And it was only like $5. It actually has 2 stolon, so I'll have estra insurance

Allison, the curtain material in your picture is cute. I have two fabric covered boxes with the same print that I put AV supplies in. : )

Thanks Pam ! I had a lady on Ebay make them for me for my garden room ! So many windows is hard to find matching valences. She also made me Special one Yellow with blue roses for our bedroom 7 windows and the French Doors on our bedroom she made curtains to match ! I love them !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Anna episcias are wonderful. I love growing them ! I have grown many a kind of them. Mostly sharing them with others.
Hubby moved the furniture in our living room and move the TV center. So I am going to get two 10 ft x 1 ft new window shelves ! Great for episcias and Streps and more :))

Wow, Allison, please show us photos of your shelves when you have plants on them.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

They will most likely be natural wood like my other one and to match molding in our home.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

yes, show us photos when you put up your new shelves, Ali!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

It may be awhile . Hubby moved furniture yesterday. Today I am so Happy he went fishing ! He brought home 7 big ones. Maybe next weekend he will make one !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

woo hoo, how does he cook them up? BBQ? what kid of fish?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Anna though I don't have room I have read that most standard Gesneriads generally reqiure more light. one for example episcias growing for flower not just foliage it will be necessary place them right in the middle of your light stand center of shelf so they can get light from all sides. I do have flowers on mine , sure I could have more flowers if i had room. I do turn mine .
Gloxinias however need more light than African violets. Columneas look nice hanging over the edges of shelves but won't bloom this way unless you install vertical bank of lights facing the leaves so they can preform their important function of making food.
*** But two things for certain needed** Remember culture under lights is the most important( Light important ) for your plant to function greater need for more food, and water to grow and bloom. Without it they will sit, stunt , won't grow healthy. Under grow
lights your plants will need more water and food. Also when plants are growing and blooming they will need more water and food. Experience and a litte experimetation are the best guides to satisfaction with plants under light.Light is the most important for growing your generaids . " All of them AV's are Gesneriads too !
