Huge BOP on HGTV

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I never saw such a huge clump of BOP get so tall, I think they said it was 12 ft tall ?

It was on a program where they choose from 3 landscape designers to do their yard over.

I was so happy they chose the guy that only wanted to just move the monster ....... not dispose of it like the other 2 had planned.

DH just shook his head while watching me get so worked up about a 'plant'.............

He is not a plant-ophile and has no idea what he is missing .... lol

Was it the Strelitzia nicolai “Giant Bird of Paradise” that can grow 15’-18’ with the banana like leaves? The blooms blooms can be as large as 18” long & 7” tall and are a greyish blue. I saw huge clumps of them in Universal Studios in So. CA.

I have one that is easily 12 ft tall but not a big clump, I keep it trimmed because it's near my pool enclosure. And yes, it's Strelitiza Nicolai.

Correct on the banana type leaves.

The lady said they planted it as a 4 ft. tall plant years ago.

I would have loved to see a bloom on it.

It grew so huge that it blocked the view to their pool.

awwwwwwwwwwwww ;-)

What a beautiful yard that they had! In northern Virginia, the land is so dear, that a doghouse on a half acre is close to a million.

I loved the stone/tile they choose for the decking. I wasn't impressed with the BOD because it wasn't blooming.

Mine is easily 20 feet tall....they have the white and blue blooms...the shorter variety (the normal reddish orange bloom) is a smaller variety, not going more the 2-5 feet.
