HOT LIPS SALVIA ? I found a nursery in Lubbock that has a few plants in 5" containers. If you are in the area and interested, drop me a D-mail and I'll point you in the right direction.

Any one looking for...........
Sorry, all the plants are gone now. Only one flat and it went quick! Don't know if they will be getting any more.
Perry, thanks for the offer, those sure did go fast! Salvias are really hot now it seems. I started with just a couple, kept getting more, now I'm practically a collector, lol. They are just so easy, and I can imagine that they do very well in the Lubbock area.
Is that a macrophylla? I do love that very sharp contrast between the red and white. I know I have seen it a couple of times at The Arbor Gate in Tomball, but never in a a smaller container. I always try to buy small - much less money, and they grow so fast, anyway!
Yes, that's what it is-------------SALVIA MICROPHYLLA 'HOT LIPS'. Glad you are able to find some in your area. I have not seen any of the large containers of this, only the 5" size. Should be more and more available as more people discover this beauty and start asking for it.
I bought three of the Hot Lips from my area HD last year. I think they were gallon-sized, definitely larger than a 5" container. If I remember right, it was around early summer, so keep your eyes peeled! They have done well. I love them, and so do the hummers :)
This is my very most favorite salvia! It bloomed all winter! Has woody stems, kind of like a greggii, but stays nice and full and beautiful - unlike any greggi I've ever had. And upright! I want MORE!

And it gets big! The one at my friends place in Oklahoma was at about 4' x 4' at the end of last year. The hummers loved it hough. By August it was almost all red flowers, but she has said it is back to it's red & white flowers this spring.
Yes, they change color like that - probably heat related, I understand. I whacked mine way back late winter (had to cut off some blooms - sob) but I'm told you can keep them smaller that way. It looks great right now.
I have this salvia and just love it. It is bushy and so full of blooms. The color is heated related. As the weather heats up the blooms turn red and when the cool weather sets in they will be two tone.
I have hot lips sage, and I will say that I think it is one of the best plants that can be grown in Texas. It is so tough. Last year with all the drought and heat, I never remembered to water it until one day in August I happened to notice that it was missing half it's leaves. So I watered it a little and 2 weeks later I looked and it was all filled out again and blooming. And the hotter it is, the more blooms.
So Sliver can you send a cutting this way with Frostweed? (hehehe)
Silver, if you are bringing any to the RU, could I please have one? I got in on this RU so late, I'm not sure what I am bringing but you are welcome to your pick!
Even a cutting would be deeply loved! ;~)

I'm embarrassed that I didn't even think of bringing some of that. Does anybody know how easy it is to root from cuttings? It's no trouble to bring cuttings. Can't hurt to try.
It is easy to root Salvias. We do it all the time here @ the Farm.
Going to pack my Root-on soon as I get home tonite. (Late nite b/c of payroll.)
Salvia - easy to root! Even I can get Salvia to take - and that is a major thing for me.
