rhizome propagation???

Lilburn, GA

I would like to propagate my butterfly begonia. I noticed that some rhizomes are shooting out on top of the soil. They do not have roots. What do I do? Do I just cut them into bits and pot them up or should they have roots on them?

thank you

Anna, if the rhizo's are large enough, you can take a cutting and lay it in the soil. about half submerged (see the photo of the middle cut) or poke the cutting into the soil like a stem, (see the cut on the right of the red line) you can tent them in plastic for a few weeks or not. They'll root in no time.
