cv. Monette's little sister

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

finally bloomed! This was seedling #14 from the cross H. coronaria X H. lauterbachii that gave us cv. Monette. The flower is just starting to open so I will photograph it daily to see how she changes/forms/fragrance?. So far, she isn't as big as cv. Monette...flower will only be about 2.5" wide... Will be fun to compare the two flowers at the same opening stage!!! Sorry the photo is not good....tomorrows will be better...and yes, it IS that color!

I can't get over how BIG it is. Have you measured it? Is it the same size as 'Monette'? What are the differences if you can see any?
Marcy

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OK...here she is with her umbel mate this afternoon. 3 1/4" across. will post cv. Monette in a next post.

Here is the only photo I can find of cv. Monette. Her corollas curve way back when she is about 3 days old...and it looks like she has less yellow in towards the corona than her sister....but color is a touchy subject...

Wow that is a huge flower, in comparison with your hand. 3 1/4 inch :O I've got to get my measuring tape out to get a visual. So pretty

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Carol. It is a real beauty, and size is amazing.
Patti

Wow, it's beautiful. Guess I need to have a chat with my plant. I think
my plant needs to be warmer. It is just amazing seeing how beautiful each flower is, not only for the firs time blooming, but every time they bloom.

Deb

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Deb...have you thought about a mini greenhouse out in your lovely garden, with shade cloth and a fan running over a mess of water. I think you would have much better blooms if they were warmer with good aircirculation and humidity.... HTH

Carol:
THAAAAT is truly amazing! OH MY GOSH - - three 1/4 inches across....FOR REAL!??! Holy cow!!! So that little thingy that holds the flower up (don't know what it's called other than 'stem') must be very sturdy then eh?
Monette....Monette.....ah man, gotta add THAT to my "must have" list.

Day 4. The newer flower is recurving already...don't they look different?

They do look different. I just can't imagine walking through the tropical forest and finding these hanging down. Oh, that would be awesome...

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

WOW......picking jaw off the floor now!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Day 7 and they are still looking like the last photo...

Örebro, Sweden

Can't stop looking at these flowers....they're just awesome!!!

London, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Hi Carol,
Absolutely amazing! ARE they scented? I wouldn't be surprised if fragrance would be too much to ask for in such stunning flowers.
Take care,
Matt

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Carol, those are absolutely stunning!
Ann

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Matt...you are correct...no fragrance..or none I can detect. In fact...I like these better than cv. Monette, which starts to recurve her corollas and looks a bit deformed...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

May 2...still looking good...no distortions as the corollas recurve. Getting a bit paler...still lovely.

Wow, it's even been a couple of weeks for this one. Really pretty Carol

Trelleborg, Sweden

Does this little sister have a name of her own? Just so we know which one is which.

Christina

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Hmmmmm, not that I know of. I am going to call Ed and ask what name he wants to put on her....

And she is still blooming...same flowers, perhaps a bit lighter in color but THERE!!!
