I'm repotting a few things today and wanted to share a few pictures and ask some questions, of course.
Here's my Chirita sinensis 'Hisako' that Allison sent to me. I'm going to repot her, but wanted to know if I'm supposed to separate what looks like a second plant (crown? whatever you call the separate parts of this one). I took a picture, not a great one, but maybe you can see what I'm talking about.
See the two smaller leaves toward the right that point to the top and bottom of the picture? That is a separate plant, it looks like to me. Am I supposed to remove that and pot it up to be a second plant, or leave it all together as one plant?
Chirita, A. Cygnet, clear solo cups, & babies...
Hi Rain,
I am no expert but it looks like you did it just right! good luck with your new babies.
When I bought more 3 oz Solo cups the other day, they had clear instead of white - not crystal clear, but sort of clear white, they're frosted looking, but I can see through them. I wasn't sure how that would be, so I only bought one pack of them. I actually like it, now that I have potted something up in them. I can see how high up the water has wicked.
Any reason that the clear cups wouldn't be a good idea to use?
i normaly find the little 3oz. cups in white and also found them in clear last week. they had no white. i am glad you asked this question. i also bought a pack of the clear.

as for the chirita i have one leaf down of 'hisako' and was wondering how long do they take for babies to appear?
Oh how funny. I just got the same charita today but did not know what it was. I knew its names was Hisako but I did not know what it was. I think that is so funny. Or am I just weird?
LOL

HELP i CAN'T SEE ANY PICTURES :((
My Chirita rooted fast and gave me good size babies super fast. I bought my plant last Fall as a plant about the size you all have. I started taking leaves off and putting them down and Mom kept growing and babies grew fast too. I have given many good size plants away of her ! Mom plant is now about 20-24 inches across she is in the same 5 inch pan pot she was sense last Fall. Chiritas like close small pots they are use to growing in the cracks of rocks on the mountains. They also like to be on the dry side and can take cooler weather.
They only needed repotted every 2-3 years ! So get her in a good pot and watch her grow and bloom and please you. Her flowers are always coming up ! She has been a treat and I am so Happy I was able to share her with lots of you :))
Help I see NO pictures ?? What's going on ?
Don't worry about Alsobia Cygnets not rooting they all root have never had one that did not.
As I can't see the pictures I take each Alsobia baby just like Epsica babies . I cut the cord from Mom Short enough so when I put it into the soil the foliage will smash to touch the soil. I lable cups, small pots what ever size seems good. Fill the way up as watering makes them go down. Put the baby stolon in the middle ~ One per pot is best. Water good. They like it moist and heavy feeders. They will root fast and grow fast ! They like as much light as they can. If and when I had room I had them on my stand 12-16 hours a day they will always bloom !
Alsobias like a pots a little larger each time. Potting up taking babies off will help Mom grow bushy and faster and bloom more. Later when she is large you can let them hang down and the babies will bloom too !
Oh abought the Chirita and another baby growing in the pot. I let mine stay . It's up to you.
I have been having problems getting on DG's all day and now I can't see the pictures :((
Well shoot, Allison! All those pictures were there when I posted this thread! Dave must still be working on getting the new server up and changing everything over. I'm sure they'll reappear sometime soon. If they don't, I'll just repost them here. I'll try to post the picture of the Chirita here and see if it works. I also posted and told Dave they'd disappeared.
Anything special I'd need to know about taking leaves from the Chirita to put down? Do I do them the same way as AV leaves?
Looking very fine ! Classy plant ! Beautiful :))
I do the leaves just as Av leaves but I use a whole leaf.
Oh I just love this plant. :))
I read it likes small pots but shallow. Mine has been in a 5 inch pot sense I bought it almost the size of your's last Fall. Soon couple days I will have more pictures was waitng on a few flowers to open !
Hmmm...I'll have to find a 5 inch pan pot for the Chirita then. Whatever you do, Allison, it sure seems to be the right thing.
I don't understand what you mean about doing Chirita leaves the same except you use the whole leaf. As far as I know I'm using the whole AV leaf. :o)
WOW you are so nice to re-post all your plants . Thank you so much ! I could not get on DG's almost all day. :((
Your babies sure look great ! They will all grow for sure :)) Give them some VF-11 or food if you have it they love it. Great super growing.
I wanted to repost them! I enjoy getting everyone's feedback about how they think I'm doing. I'm still a newbie at this, ya know! ;o)
Dave was in Dallas all day putting the new server online so we'll stop having the slowdowns. I don't mind a few minutes extra work since he put in 12 hours.
So you would just leave the Chirita as one plant and not separate that second, smaller plant?
And the Alsobia...what size pot should I put her in? I left her in the same size pot after taking the babies off.
Oh yes clear pots are fine. Your Blue Dragon is going to town ! Yippee :)) I had a small leaf of Blue Dragon and I think I have three small plants now :))
I buy my pan pots from Secret Gardens or from Bluebird Green house.
You can keep the Chirita together or separate what ever you want. I've been keeping mine together.
Alsobia Cygnets when you take the babies off and want more growth and more babies give the Mom plant a little larger plant.
They have done well for me in any size, Pan Pots, up to six inch round even 12 inch round :))
Well something sure is wrong. There are pictures all over the threads that aren't showing up.
They are all beautiful ! Happy the pictures are back. Great growing Amy :)) There's nothing like growing a plant from a leaf or baby !
