I would like to know the difference between a mini and a semimini. I would also like to know more about a mini and a semimini trailer. I have both and mine are growing out of their pots so I need to repot them. What size pot should I pot them in. Right now Aly's Rosy Baby is in a 2" pot and Sweet Sam is in a 2" pot. I have taken photos of both of them so you guys can tell me if they look okay or if they need bigger pots. They are both doing great and have grown so much since Allison sent them to me. I just love the little guys. Update: I just returned from Bluebird's and I got a 2½ " pot and I think the extra half of an inch will be just about right for them. What do you think? I bought some 2½" pots and some more 4" pots. I also got some more Optimara plant food and some more trays and lids. I want to put all of mine in nice trays with lids and I have the ones I need now. I have a big problem with my leaves drying out which is not related to how much I water them. They need to be covered. Here is a photo of the front of Sweet Sam. I think I will move him from a 2" to a 2½" pot. That is all that I have so I hope that will do. If you guys think I should order some bigger pots, then I will. Bluebird only uses the 2½" and 4" pots so that I bought.
Question about plant sizes
Jesse Those are both trailer's and they don't go by the same size as other Av's . Trailer size is by the leaf size but can grow large. They like shallow pots. You need to go by the root system. Trailer's are supose to trail over the side.
We have had many thread on this I sugest going to the sticky and reading up on trailers.
So the size of a trailer has no descision what size pot is used it is based on the size of the leaves.
I grow my trailers in pan pot but I don't put them into Pan Pots until they are large.
On regular African violet " NOT Trailer" A Miniature African violet plant is 3-6 inches and a Semi-Miniature African violet plant is 6-8 inches at maturity.
Neither shall ever needed larger than a 2.50 inch pots.
But what size pan pots do you use for them? Do they make pan pots in small enough sizes?
Jesse
Best to put them into 2.50 pots now. then 3 and so on step by step. Until they are large enough to go into a 5inch pan pot. Of one of those other squaty pots bluebirds sells.
I will have to check into that. I need some pan pots I guess because my plants are outgrowing their pots.
Jesse
Pan pots are good for mature trailers, Strep's, Epsicas, begonia's , Chiritas. But don't rush plants into pots too large you will just set them up for root rot.
It should be easy for you to run right over to Bluebirds and get more pots !
It is not that easy for me to just "run over to Bluebirds". It takes a lot for me to do that but that is something that I must deal with.
Jesse
