Looking for Michelia champaca 'alba'

Turlock, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi all- I had a very nice lady come into my Home Depot where I work, and she asked me if I could find this plant for her. Now I know Home Depot is not plant heaven, but I do try to get unusual plants in [when the managers aren't looking!] I'm still searching all my vendors but so far no luck. She told me she had seen one at a neighboring Home Depot, but I haven't been able to find out anything more.
If any of you know a good source for this plant, I will pass the info on to her, she REALLY wants this plant! TIA

Kimmers, my local Green Thumb Nursery in Ventura has both Michelia champaca and Michelia x alba. The M. champaca is around $40, and the Michelia x alba is around $120 for a tree that is around five to six feet tall. All Green Thumb/Green Arrow locations may carry the same items so it is worth checking one near you. I'm not sure where your are, but most Chinese nurseries carry it too. Have her ask for Pak Lan.

Green mart always seems to have many in various sizes. maybe they can ship you one. They also have many tropicals and unusual fruit trees.

I've heard about Green Mart and would love to visit there someday. There are also a couple of nurseries in Pasadena which carry them, but I can't think of their names right now. One is a tropical nursery which a wide selection of tropical plants. Try doing a search for "Tropical plants Nursery in Southern California" or "Michelia Nursery in Southern California" or something like that, and you are bound to find them. Steven's Nursery in North Hollywood carries the Michelia champaca: http://www.stevensnurseryandhardware.com/ and Temple Gardens Center in El Monte carries both.
