They are Beautiful. I just wanted to share with you that they are not snakes head. The common names are checkered lilies or guinea hen flowers. The Fritillaria meleagris part is correct.

Please forgive me if I am being to forward. I truely dont want to offend you.

Are any of yours pure white. I have 3 this year that were white on white. They were very pretty.

You are forgiven! Just as an FYI the original English common name of Fritillaria meleagris is snake's head fritillaria, another common name (lesser known) is Leper Lily. Checkered lilies or guinea hen flowers are correct also.

Ooo, nice snakes head fritillary!!! I've got some of them too and they've go big buds on them now. I find they multiply quite well too! I'll try to take a picture of mine if I can once they're in flower.
Thanks for sharing,

Down with common names!

I understand that a happy clump will reseed nicely. Who could say "no" to a flower chequered?

Not me. I don't really like common names either as they confuse people into thinking a plant is something it's not.

I planted them for the first time last fall. They received the most comments in my garden this year. Cute. It's good to hear they multiply. Are they long lived in the Mid West?

Thank you for sharing.

I've always known these as fritillaria meleagris or snakes head fritillary. They do well for me and seed all over the garden

Nice photos Galanthophile. Most of the ones in my garden are the white form except they don't have the redish markings on them. They're going to open any time now!
