Hyacinths fell over

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

Do hyacinths just do this because they are top heavy, or is there something wrong with mine? I have almost all yellow ones...don't know if that makes a difference. TIA, Tamara

My hyacinths fall over all of the time. I think it is because they're top heavy. I use popsicle sticks to stake mine to.

Okay! Thanks for putting my mind at ease. :-) Tamara

Mine fell over too and it was a little strange to see them that way. You certainly don't see them presented in the catalogs sideways, do you?!! LOL Didn't realize you had to stake hyacinths.

Mine have never fallen over, but some have leaned just a bit.....thought the light wasn't quite good enough in that location....interesting problem.

While I wasn't looking mine were saved from falling over by a Good Samaritan with sharp scissors. Time to visit my neighbors and see who is enjoying a vase of blue and yellow hyacinths...

Doesn't that make you mad! I woke up one morning several years ago to find all my yellow Iris gone. What an awful thing to do.

At least they left the foliage so I expect these bulbs to be pumped up for bloom next year. Guess I need to get one of those motion sprayers. That would be funny!

If someone stole my flowers, I think I'd get a pitbull to guard my garden! Tamara

You know, you can buy fake security cameras at the dollar store. Perhaps this is a good use.

I'm glad to hear mine aren't the only hyacinths to have toppled--I was concerned, and that my dog, who probably keeps people from stealing my flowers, was doing his job by making the flowers undesirable!
