"Brownie" Has a "Big Red" attitude yet seems shy at the same time with me. Hope after the rains we had today tomorrow will clear for better shots.-Rich

Rich, How do you get those pictures? Are you just standing still like a tree stump and waiting for them to get into your frame? By the time I get close the birds and butterflies leave. I've not gotten a good shot yet, but I keep trying.

You have to make them want to be your friend. The hummers fly around me and I give them a feeder and all the plants they love. that is the key familiarity.-Rich

Dear 1gardengram,

I know what you mean about not being able to get the butterflies and hummers to sit still for a moment or two. I am beginning to think that maybe it is the camera.

Dear RichSwanner,

Is Brownie an Anna's hummingbird also? Lately there have been some brown hummingbirds at my feeder that are a little larger than the "little guy". I will try to take a photo of them next time...

Thanks,

Have a Good Day!!!

1gardengram,

I know what you mean about the butterflies and hummingbirds flying away when you try to photograph them. I guess they feel the tension in me because I want to take a really good photo. I have found that I am better at taking pics of plants and flowers at least for right now!! LOL

Rich,

I admire your work as always!!

Thanks,

Chuck

What type of camera do you have Everybody?Remember butterflies and dragonflys are slow in the morning or evening. With hummers get to know them .-Rich

The more you're around them, especially with your camera raised even if you're not taking pictures, the more they'll get used to you being out there with the thing in your hand. In Arkansas I used to be able to stand by my feeders & take shot after shot of them with my 35mm SLR. They'd come light on my fingers & buzz by my ears on the way to the feeder. They'll get used to ya if you hang around patiently enough. Pull up a chair nearby & read. That's a handy way to get friendly.

What a handsome hummer. I have a lot of young ones now. They are fun to watch. I am close to the breeding tree so I am fortunate to see so many youngsters. I have one lady who loves the sprinkler. She thinks my yard is her private water park.
