Chanin these are all so incredible. How old is this one and how do you keep it?

Bangkok, Thailand

Beyond the biggest Queen Elkhorn : Platycerium wandae and another solitaly species such as P.superbum and P.grande, this Holttum's staghorn is also a giant staghorn in the tropical world.

There are 4 species of staghorn native to my tropical country, Thailand. They are P.coronarium, P.ridleyi, P.wallichii and this P.holttumii.

P.coronarium and P.holttumii seem to grow more easy than another two. The plant in the picture is about 7 years old with 2.5 feet of upright crown fronds and 3.5 feet of pendant fertile fronds. I mount the plant on a column of my lath house because I can't hang it like other small epiphytes. It receive a half day 50% sun from the morning and 2-3 times per week watering with a high potassium (K) fertilizer once a month.

Thanks Chanin. Clearly you have a love of plants. I have a small staghorn fern. I don't know what species but it's the common one here. But it doesn't get sun. It is doing all right, but perhaps I should put it in a place where it gets more light. And thanks for the information on the other points of culture.

Oh I love this one too. I have a young P.superbum and P.grande and I have been trying to buy a P.coronarium on ebay. I think from what I have read though, I would have to keep that one inside over winter. My others all live outside year round.

I have never fertilized mine, but I do toss rotten bananas on mine on the top of the one I have had for 30 years.

Yours are so special Chanin.
