Lone Oak, TX

Can this plant be grown in east Texas, zone 7b? If so, what are the requirements? Thank you

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

There a number of species in this genus. For which one were you trying to get information? DG's Plant Files lists Kangaroo Paws as good for Zones 9 - 11, but there might be hardier species. I don't have experience with this plant.

~sistabrothers~ This year was my first year to grow some and I am so pleased that
did. I planted mine in January and they are still growing strong. Here a picture
when I planted in January and now.

I have grown Kangeroo Paws in the past in containers in Zone 8b. They lasted through freezes with no protection. They died back, but sprouted from the roots in the spring. I eventually lost them to a fungal disease. I guess I kept the soil too wet. I believe I mixed cactus potting soil with regular potting soil (1 to 1 ratio). I fertilized them with a low phosphorus formulation such as 20-10-20 or 15-5-20. The plants can be pruned once a year by removing old flower stems and any discolored outside foliage and be sure to take debris away from plants for disease control.

Hello, thank you for the info. I have 4 1Gal pots, not too sure of the variety, but has red flower. I planted them in the ground with several succulents. Hope they survive.

You are quite welcome. I hope that they do well for you. They are so pretty.

Uh oh, I think I'm watering mine too much.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Calalilly, that's how I think I killed mine. :o(

I am terrible to overwater. I killed DH's large Jade plant that was 20 something years old. I don't think he's forgiven me for that yet!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

I have killed jade plants too! My Mother's kalanchoe always did well and bloomed profusely for years and years. For years and years I would take some home with me to plant and for years and years, they died. I finally learned that I was killing them by overwatering them. Now I just leave them alone most of the time and they are doing fine.
