Royal Wasp...

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

leaves tend to go down instead of out. Is this normal? They are getting to be a nuisance as they get caught between the pot and the container that she sits in. What do you do with yours? Linda

Silver Spring, MD

Leaves growing down is a sign of too much light. Where is she and how much light does she get?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

She is a wasp Vintage with Bustled leaves and yes her leaves grow down and any which way she wans.

She is on my Eastern window with blinds open and on sunny days partially open. I turn her everyday. i have not seen any sunburn.
Some of the leaves are cupped. She is in a 4 inch pot. Should she stay in it and just cut those large leaves that are older?
Or, should let her do her thing. i like that in a plant;O)) Linda

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

She may be in a pot too large. The plant pictures above was in a two inch pot and I just moved her into a 2.50 . I grow most of my wasp in natural light if I have room. I also have given dozens of them away to friends even the rarest.
***Bustle Back: A larger leaf with two smaller leaves at base. Also called piggy-backed, compound, wasp bustle.
Little leaves grow on the back.
Royal wasp leaves will spoon and bustle , but not all have bustles all the time. Her leaves can get real large just like the Martin and some other wasp.
You have to gently life her leaves if taking her in and out of a conatainer.
Her is a link of Rainbow violets. She sells Baby starter wasp plants for $8.00 but Senk's Wasp are only sold on Ebay.
http://rainbowviolets.com/id18.html
She also has a picture of Royal Wasp and others and show foliage.
Also Linda **** Chances are if your foliage is not 10-12 inches across or mega hugh root ball filling a 4 inch pot it's too large of a pot.
Wasp plant will grow with hardly any care and if in proper size pot bloom all the time.

I have a stemmed glass like yours. i will place her in a different container now that I know she acts the way she does.
I still owe you Little creek Girl. Walmart has not had any new minatures with names for over month. Would you like me to send you some of the royal wasp leaves? i started some leaves but they do not look very good and one of the moms died on me and left her babies. Linda

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Sure only if you have a lot. As I can take a couple off the plant I'm sending to Jill. I have noticed like Bob was telling me, I take lot's of leaves off my plants and they grow so fast and big. I just love growing them by leaf. And if I can grow a lot of Vintage and Rare they can be shared and not lost by the wayside :))
I think Anna sent me a Little Creek in bloom ? She sent me a couple different ones ! I'd like to get all the Littles not just the indain ones. I know Lorry has a lot and sent me leaves but forget which ones. Optimara also has dozens of girl foliage plants I'd sure love to have. Anna fount on for me. And I ordered a leaf from
Tina of the only girl leaf Optimara she has.
A while back I bought the green and white wasp plant by Senk. It's the first and only green and white flowering wasp plant. Still is. I bought two leaves for around !8-20.00 They gave me seven babies. 4-5 sold for $20.00 each and a few for $30.00 could kick myself for not keeping one as they are variegated and beautiful wasp plants. David Senk uses " Dates" wasp bustled leaves strain making them real wasp with wasp foliage when some of the Hybridizers do and did not.
BUT I bought some leaves and have leaves down so hopeing for plants of ; Vespa Verde (D. Senks) It has white wasp blossoms variably edged in green.Variegated Foliage, Delicate Green-edged Wasp Blossoms "Vespa Verde" Vespa Verde blooms easily and its medium green semi-miniature occasionally-bustled foliage forms a nice rosette Semiminiature (User Database)
this time I will make sure to keep one :))
Oh PS maybe someone else in our forum might enjoy your extra Optimara Little plant :))

I found the right container. It is ceramic but instead of the stem there are feet. If I could figure out how to change my photos to jpg I would show what it looks like. Linda
