Have to look carefully to find pond inspector

Battle Ground, WA(Zone 8a)

I realize it's not entirely in focus because I couldn't grab it fast enough, but take a good look at what was checking out my pond this winter! It was a first for me although I know we are seeing more and more about here!

Is that a bald eagle on the far side ??? They are so beautiful aren't they !! I see them more and more in our area but still I stop to look when I see one. So big up close.

Yes, it was a bald eagle! Last summer on the 4th of July, an osprey located my pond (with my Douglas trout!). He enjoyed diving over a couple of days. Then he left. Now we find a bald eagle showing up. Interestingly enough, he didn't eat anything. Just looked. Stayed around off and on for a couple of days and hasn't been back. But boy were we in shock eating breakfast to see him hopping across the meadow to admire himself in our pond! They are so very beautiful!

They are pretty common around here. One was across the road in a neighbors sugar beet field with one of the wild rabbits from my place as it's supper. It was a young eagle who found the rabbit just a bit more than it could carry in full flight. He munched away until he had eaten enough to be able to turn the rabbit around and carry it.

Eagles carry fish or what ever prey they have directly under their body parallel for a stream lined flight with little resistance.

Great shot of that Eagle, bill! I saw one flying low over my house a few days ago. We have two or three pair that live in the area because we have so many little lakes. I admit being a bit nervous seeing him flying so low over the house. That guy by your pond looks positively majestic!

No matter how many of these birds I see, and we're so fortunate in Washington to have so many of them, they always take my breath away. They are totally incredible. I kind of hope he sticks around for you. Seems like you have the pond for it.
