I have a couple of brugs that flowered for me last year, but only after I brought them inside. What sort of light do they prefer - east, south, lots or partial shade? Also, do they prefer to be wettish or dryish. Heavy feeders or not? I live in Montana, and so their outside time doesn't even start till June. Any info on brugmansia culture would be great
best light for Brugmansias
Generally speaking they like Morning Sun and Afternoon Shade, moist but not wet - especially in the cold - then they need to be on the dry side. In the wild they're mostly understory plants so having a little shade in the afternoon suits them. There are exceptions that will do fine in full sun, but in my area it'll burn the leaves.
I agree with Mary and would just add that if your temps go over 85 normally, I would give them afternoon shade or at least the heat of the day shade. Once they are outside, if in a pot of soil that drains well, you probably won't overwater them, just watch and see when the soil begins drying out and then water. I fertilize two times a week most of the time, using water soluable fertilizer. Sometimes I forget. They do like to eat and will probably bloom better when fed well.
Welcome to the brug forum and don't hesitate to ask questions. I'm sure someone will be around to answer you. Good luck with your brugs.
