I think I may have misunderstood the pruning instructions in a home orchard book I bought.
This is a muscat grape vine. I planted it in the spring of 05 and about 3 weeks ago, I pruned it. But now, I think I misunderstood the pruning directions and should not have cut it so far back- I do not see any signs of any bud swelling. Have I killed my vine or over-pruned it so much that I have set it back a few years?
please let me know. Thanks.
have i killed or over-prune my muscat vine?
I think you may have overpruned it. We have scuppernongs and we don't prune ours back that far. It will come back though.
I have cut my scuppernong vines down to ground level before and they came right back.
Thanks guys-
would you expect a new bud to break through the trunk, or would the bud come out of the exposed top of the trunk where I made the cut.
On ours the new buds come out of the trunk.
yay- 5 buds are swelling on my muscat vine- all is not lost!
no sign yet on the concord vine- i may have really destroyed it!
Glad to hear it!!!! Ours are looking great and we finally got some rain too!!
