was at walmart and found a new flourscent light fixture...it's about 45 incles long...much like the other ones...but this one gives 50 percent more light for 50percent less energy used...and it has a chain off and on switch...5 ft cord...hanging chain etc...but there is NO HUM...NO SPUTTER...INSTANT OFF AND ON...NO FLICKER...9.95 w/o light bulbs....let me take a pic and see if you can tell the difference from my little flouescent light that was on the plants in previous pics..
found new light fixture at walmart
Bob,
What was the brand of the fixture? I need a couple and those sound great. By the way, nice looking plants :-)
Sharon
Bob wonderful ! WOW :)) Now does the fixture have one light tube or two ? How would you hang it. And do they sell replacements light tubes ?
What are the plants in picture #2 called. I am a total novis with house plants. Only know a little about avs
I know I see Epsicas Aussie Alice , and Choclate Soldier way to the right , and an AV front left.
Bob, can you take a picture of the fixture too? Sounds great!
allison the light fixture takes 2 tubes..and it comes with hanging chains...just stick one end of chain on screw which you screw into the wood or whatever will hold it... and other on fixture...very simple...but so far advanced over the old ones...and only 9.95...
notice the chain in the middle..you just pull it off and on.
That is way nice BOB and you say it came with two light tubes for that low cost ? Was it one sale special ?
Bob I gave some of the names of your plants Nanna did not know their names she thought the were house plants.
How is Wrangler's Stampede and I think I sent you Ultra Violet Dusk or Sassy Shell ?? So you could have a girl leaf ! I have babies from a leaf of your Wrangler's Stampede and the babies are really variegated and lots of pink too !
allison..no the light fixture does not come with the 2 tubes...but at 9.95..it's still a buy
Allison the ultra viollet dusk and wranglers stampede are doing well...but they haven't bloomed...hopefully with the new light fixture..they'll get more light for them
That is a good buy,Bob. way to go. Thanks for sharing!!!
Great bargain Bob, mine are similar, but the pull chain is on the end. I pay $17 plus bulbs! So that's a steal!
Bob,
How does this one differ from the common shop lites?
Jan...
Bob
Thanks for the tip I am going to build one of those build it yourself shelves out of PVC & I have been looking at light fixtures and not really thinking anything I saw was going to do it- that one looks perfect! Since I will need 3 that is really an excellent buy!
well as i noted above..this one is different as it's instant on and off with chain in the middle....gives 50percent more light and cost 50percent less to run....no hum...no flickers...you just pull the chain off and on...5 ft cord....i think i'll get a couple more tomorrow..my self...it's called ALL SEASON'S LIGHT..
forgot to mention it comes with a 1 year warranty....om gosh..all for under 10.00...says they will replace fixture if it breaks within a year...you have to send in card...too much
Wow..great bargain shopping Bob :)
it's the best flourescent i've ever seen...great energy saver...
very nice Bob ! You'll have lots of flowers now :))
well Allison if i don't tend to them better i will...very hot in house in summer and i try not to run the a/c much as i can't afford it....i did pick up 2 more of the lights today...they are a good buy....and yes, any tubes will work in them.....
They are nice Bob and good price. We run lights at nice this way during the day when it is real hot they don't help heat up the home and A/C does not run so much. If I don't use A/C and fan's I can't breath. My bed is electric 24 hours too mattress and to make me sit up and down. Then my breathing machine. Just seems no way to get rid of the electric. lol
And then during the winter we ran them at night to help keep them warm. It seemd to work well as my babies all played like Rabbitts and there were flowers every where :))
allison...that's a very good idea...running them at night...think i may change..as it would be much cooler for them...glad you mentioned that....allison..how far from Bradenton are you?
Bob hubby says it's about 30 miles.
allison...on May 13th...i will be at a plumeria get together in Bradenton...it's the day before mothers day...perhaps i can pop in to say hello on my way back...it's a month away...so we can think about it...8))
That will be real nice Bob :))
i'll look forward to it allison...8))
WONDERFUl ! Don't bring anything except blooming Plumerias :))
i'll try allison...he he
...he he
Allison,
You do such a wonderful job with all of your violets and you take such great care of the rest of us peeps (someone is rubbing off on me, LOL), helping us with our AV collections. How do you do all of that? Do you have help with your plants? You are truly amazing to me. It just blows my mind all that you do. Does anyone else help you? I hope that today that you will be blessed and your day will be really wonderful. You are an inspiration to all of us. I know that everyone will agree with me on that. I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for all that you do for me and the rest of the AV family. We all love you very much.
Jesse
we do indeed love Allison....and all of you...this is a very loving family
Yes, I agree with you Bob. Everyone here is so nice and so helpful, especially when us newbies come in. I guess I'm not a newbie anymore and now I'm sending out leaves to others. It really is a great feeling to send things to others. People were so kind to me and it makes me so happy to share leaves with others now.
Jesse
Oh I wish I could do so much more. But if I did not get sick I doubt I'd be growing African violets and having the chance to know all you and share the joy !
Before all I had was time to work.
Now I have time to enjoy !
Happy Easter, Allison
Allison....it is just amazing what turns in life bring us...just think we never would have met everyone on this forum...i kind of think that's what Easter is all about...
Yes Bob so many Blessing ~
