help,want to get rid of aim email

i used to have aol, but i cancell them and got high speed dsl,
now i got aim email and can,t get rid of it.i deleted it off my computer and didn,t use it, computer started running slow ,so i started checking ,i went back and open aim email service, i had 734 email and a lot of spam.is there anyway to get aim complenty of my computer.funny thing i didn,t ask far aim email it was just there
