Lesson Learned and Kudos for DG!!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Long story short our 2 y.o. rottie ended up eating an entire CHOCOLATE sheet cake that was in the trash. As if that wasn't bad enough...I'd been "grooming" plants and and thrown dead leaves away on top of said cake. Didn't realize the pup had eated both the cake and the leaves until I saw the leaves come back up 2x. I quickly did a search here on Dave's and read: All parts of plant are toxic. Talk about a panic attack!!! Luckily the leaves being dead was a good thing in this case per SPCA animal poison control...the cake was a different story. She did tell us that it was a good thing that cocoa was used vrs. baking chocolate. Apparently the baking chocolate is even more toxic then the cocoa. AND it didn't seem to matter to them that this particular dog had ingested chocolate previously with no problems. As with anything it was the amount in her system that had them concerned - that combined with distended stomach, vomiting and diarrhea. Very scarey night. We took her to the emergency vets this past weekend where she stayed hooked up to an IV and was discharged Mon. mornng. Pup is doing fine now...thank God!!! But I thought it might be helpful to share what we learned with the rest of you. "Baby" is the one on the far right. Rotten Rottie she is!
