Andy I finally got ahold of his Day-By-Day Itinerary.....unfortunately Mr. Churchill's home isn't on it.

Day 1-2 : Arrive in London
Fly to Great Britain, arrive in London on Day 2 and meet your EF Tour Director. On our EF walking tour, see the famous pigeons as we cross Trafalgar Square. Pass through Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square before concluding your tour at Covent Garden.

Day 3 : City Sights
See Big Ben’s clock tower, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge during guided sightseeing. Visit St. Paul’s Cathedral—inside, the tomb of the church’s architect, Sir Christopher Wren, advises (in Latin): “If you seek his monument, look around you.” Later, journey to Windsor Castle, where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert often entertained. Tonight, take in a West End theatre performance.

Of course you are. You're a Mom. You'll be fine, so will he. He must be so excited.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

He had us at the airport 3 hours before flight was scheduled to leave Regina. ;)

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

so very exciting Pam. I remember my first trip to the UK. I was so amazed at the history. He should have a great time.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Just got a phone call from him Linda......their flight was held up in Toronto for almost 2 hours (on the runway) and they are now stuck in New York/Newark!!!!! :( :S :( With little U.S. money and 3 teachers that have never been there before. :( :S :( Their flight overseas will now be tomorrow. Waiting for another *collect* phone call and more details. /;-)

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

LOL, that's all part of the experience. What great stories he'll be able to tell.!! Maybe they'll end up on one of the episodes of "airline" or what ever it's called. "Canadian students stranded in foreign country"

Don't Pam, just having a bit of fun at your expense. They'll be fine, tired, but fine.

Linda

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL Yep I have a feeling they will have a number of stories to tell. They are staying at a Ramada Inn there and I'm guessing the teacher's credit cards will be their bank. ;) Every spare cent they had was converted to British currency .... most only had 10.00 U.S. since they were only supposed to be in the Airport there for 1 hour.

DS (and his fellow small town travelling companions) are certainly getting to see a number of VERY LARGE CITIES. ;S In Toronto they saw the CN tower, a major Mall and a museum. The teachers are VERY unsure of where they will be sight seeing in New York. ;)

Hey Pam relax. when I did my first flight to europe when I was coming back they needed a seat and I gave mine up and got another flight back for free! It only took me a week to get back. What an adventure. He will have a ball. All Canadians stuck in the middle of nowere need to go to NY, London, Turkey, and Istanbul.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOLOLOL we really don't want to hear that Steve!!! Visions of his flight being diverted to one of them now. He's talking on the phone to his Dad now....said he saw Manhattan, etc. through the plane window. They think they'll visit the Statue of Liberty and other than that stick like glue to the hotel.

His Dad is now giving him hints how to survive there. ;S

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

His new flight schedule says they will be leaving Newark at 5:30 pm tomorrow.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I went there NY for our senior trip and the teachers who arranged the hotel got us close to Times Square At Lowes Midtown Motor Inn. We we guys wondered why all the NY girls we dressed so provocitivly. They were all so friendly when we walked by. We didn't know about those types of girls from our small home town in the middle of no where. I went there a couple of years later to pick up my sister from her college externship at Bloomingdales. I stayed at a hotel across from Madison Square Garden. When I went down to the bar for a drink the most beautiful nice girl came up and talked with me for quite a while. She was so nice I was quite impressed. She went away with another man at the bar. When I told my sister about the beautiful woman who I enjoyed talking with she said: "Don't you know what that was you hillbilly?" Then I became a man of the world and would always recognize the Madame. I hope mom you had your time with you son about the big world. Hee Hee I bet that makes you relax about his trip.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

;b That isn't one of the things we are worried about. They are chaperoned and there won't be any individual side trips. Besides those country mice are having enough excitement as it is.

When they were on the CN Tower's elevator they were asked by some young similarily dressed people "Which gang do you belong to?" They are already discovering there is quite a different world outside of Moose Jaw. He said Toronto made them a *little* uneasy. New York has made them very uneasy....and he also noticed people there don't know how to respond to someone saying "Hi". ;)

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

It's not unique to NY that folks don't know how to respond to the simple and expressive word 'hi' Sometimes here in Victoria it can cause a bit of a stir as well.

The last time in N. Ireland, the greeting was mumble (maybe because I couldn't dechiper it) with a quick twitch of the head to the right.

Going to the Statue of LIberty would be very high on my list if I could get to NY, and maybe a drive down Broadway. there would be sooo much to see, and sooo little time.

Hang in there mom, he'll be home safe, sound exhausted in no time.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

What airline is he flying?

El snoopo

Don't worry. They will be fine and remember this adventure always.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Funny how the world is, isn't it Linda. I remember weeds (Florida) telling me once that when she's in New York she loves saying "Hi" to one and all.......she loves looking at their stunned faces. ;)

I'm sure looking forward to hearing his stories. He said all of them are writing in their journals and taking many, many pics. :D Ü :D

When he was talking to us we asked where his Passport was......he said he left it up in his room!?! We strongly suggested that it should never/ever be anywhere but on him!

He ended the conversation by saying he hopes there is a problem with the flight home from Scotland. He wouldn't mind staying there for a few more days.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Hey and thanks Ginny. ;)

They are flying with Continental airlines.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

He Just phoned. :D Ü :D

Continental paid for their hotel room and all their meals.

EF paid for a New York tour and they saw these up close and personal (they were up at 6:00 a.m.) in Manhattan:
Empire State Building
Dakota Hotel
Apollo Theatre
Radio City Music Hall
Ground Zero
Broadway
Rockefeller Center
Central Park
Where the celebrities live
Grand Central Station (he loved it)

Statue of Liberty (at a distance)

He ♥ New York ♥ ....... he's not too fond of New Jersey however. ;)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

That sounds like a great tour of the city. I hope they were able to get off the bus!

I really liked the Radio City Music Hall tour, saw all the hydraulics under the stage and met a Rockette in full makeup and costume, fishnets, the whole deal...

He'll never watch Law & Order or a Woody Allen film the same way again!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Andy I'll have to ask him about that....I'm not sure if they got to go inside many of them or not (I know they got to see inside Grand Central Station tho.......he was SO impressed with it). He phoned at 3:45 New York time and said they had just arrived at the airport (with lots of time to spare....they weren't going to miss the second flight;)

It's so neat reading what you remember...I hope he too will have one of those special encounters where every detail is burnt into his memory! He said the day was such an incredible blur (but he took over 200 digital pics).

Quoting:
He'll never watch Law & Order or a Woody Allen film the same way again!

LOL & I'm positive we will be hearing lots when they are on. ;)

I'm confused about Woody Allen and Law and Order? I saw Ray Charles at the Rainbow room with the Rocketts at Radio City. I also saw "Hair" when I was there on my senior trip. The best was a night club I went to called "upstairs at the downstairs" and Joan Rivers was the comedian. There were only 12 people there and she did her whole act at our table. She ripped me apart with her scathing jokes. I played right into her tyrade and had fun trying to keep up with her. The jokes all pertained to me and my girlfriend which both of us coming from a small town just made it hilarious.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I'm guessing it has to do with the location where Law and Order is shot and many of Woody Allen's movies are filmed Steve.

I had to laugh when I read "us coming from a small town".......the last thing DS mentioned was they felt like such small town *hicks* there. He said their heads were rotating constantly trying to take in the immensity of that city.....never mind that their cameras were flashing constantly. ;)

You were very lucky to have experienced what you did!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Amen. Life is to be experienced wether we do that at one place or everywhere in the world. Yes all of NY knows that they are tourists. But as I said to Joan Rivers when she was making fun of my hick status. I just told her that a hick is happier just laying in a meadow than a New Yorker is in Tiffany's buying anything they want.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

He loves time we spend in the country too and I know his purchase of a couple of knock offs from the street vendors in New York was exciting enough for him. ;) He works in the fish department in Superstore and he chopped and packaged a lot of fish (and was pinched many times by the lobsters and crabs) to raise the money for this trip. He was going to buy a laptop for University but one student cancelled at the last minute so he emptied his bank account (he paid for the whole trip himself) so he could experience something of the world. He was recently accepted into pre-med so he figured this would be his best chance to see a little of it before he's chained to the books.

His feet are on firm old British soil now. Wonder what they are doing. Think they slept on the plane? Doubt it eh. He can sleep when he gets home. I checked his flight before I logged onto DG, just to see how things went. I guess they must always run late. Amazing the amount of the trip they spend in an airplane going nowhere. Not much of a traveller me, but I'm sure happy for him to have this adventure.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thanks Brenda :) Must admit I was up till 4:00 am last night (took awhile to wind down ;) ........ I was glued to Continental's site (and their streaming pic of the plane crossing the Atlantic). An hour 1/2 later we phoned the hotel in England (quick call) to celebrate their arrival.

Neither his DF or I have taken a trip like this either so we're pretty excited for him.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Flying to europe is the worst cause you are not sleeping the 5 hours on the plane and then you land its the next morning and they have you scheduled for trips everywhere. I slept all through Amsterdam my first morning. Woke up for beer in Munich.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL Breakfast of champions eh??? ;)

You'd get along well with our European frequent flyer Milan (PanamonCreel)......I'm pretty sure I remember him saying he stays up for the duration of the flight and then parties there til he drops. He finds that helps him adjust to the time change (and jet lag).

This message was edited Apr 15, 2006 9:37 PM

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I don't party anymore. I just sit and get drunk. Hee Hee Not really but I enjoy a few local beers when traveling. Oh and a brandy nite cap. Why does Milan Frequenty Fly?

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Why do I "frequent Europe fly", well I'm the outcast of the family and the only one in North America. Gotta show my face back in Europe once in a while to not get stricken from wills :).
Also the Head office of the company I work for is in Europe thus get "invited" to go there for interrogations.
No brandy for my nite cap but a nice Hops tea with beautiful foamy head will do ;)

Milan

LOLOL My DS may be following Mr. Creel's method of handling jet lag and trying his English equivalent ;) of that tonight (he's legal age in Britain but not here)......he's in the hotel now but the front desk says they are everywhere but their rooms.

Quoting:

It's bad enough having to walk a few feet to their office.....would hate to spend a whole 7 hour flight wondering what will be said. :S

Milan I think you make a cup of tea sound wonderful. Foaming is a good adjective. But Brandy makes me sleepy on a saturday night that is "snaining". (between rain and snow)
Ahhh my mothers family is in Germany and I have visited many times but nothing to inherit but a bunch of Friesian Cows. They live in SE Germany.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

HEY

I'm at the Davenport House hotel and just finished breakfast. Our first day was really good in England. Here's a few places that we went: Old Royal Navy Academy, St. Paul's (No pics allowed), Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Buckingham Palace, The Canadian Gate, Trafalgar Square, Fortune Theatre (saw the play there), West Minster Abby, and the millennium eye. There were other places, I just can't remember them all. DS would have loved it at Covent Garden There were tons of places to shop. I found so many little stores around our hotel, and don't worry, I got tons of pics. I gotta go. We're on our way to Stonehenge and Bath!

PS. I don't know if I'll be able to get online again and I can't call collect

LOLOL at myself! I'm thinking "Where the heck is Todd? I've never heard of any place called Todd before!", until I looked at your pic.....(shaking head at self in absolute wonder and amazement) --Ginny

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOLOLOLOL ;)

Continental's site is truly amazing......it tracks the plane from take off to landing.

DS should be back on SK soil tonight around 9:00 pm. That boy is gunna be a bear after a 20 hour return trip.

That must seem like a very short trip. Of course it didn't help to lose a day at the start of it. Well I'm sure you're relieved to have him back home, where I suppose he will sleep all day. I assume we can look forward to some of his pics soon? I hope the home trip was a n easier one.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

echoes it *flew* for him. ;) Last night I started sorting thro his 800 pics. :S :^)))

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Hooray he's home safe and sound. Now Pam, I'm all comfy here waiting for the picutres. The first one ofhte dbl decker bus, caught my attention beacuse ofhte crosswalk where it ways 'look right' reminded me of out trip to NZ, the rental car had stickers on the dash that said "keep right" keep right!
