Daffodils in the Boston Globe

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Good Morning! There is a large article about daffodils in today's Boston Globe by gardening reporter Carol Stocker. It takes up a full page and there is a large picture of about a dozen varieties that were from David Burdick's Daffodils and More here in Massachusetts. Gorgeous ones. His website is daffodilsandmore.com He doesn't have this year's catalog up yet, but I expect to see him at a local plant sale in May. I have purchased daffs from him before and I love them. They are pricey, but no one else in your neighborhood will have them unless you live down the road from David.

Martha nice article. Glad to see Carol's still writing for the Globe (even in retirement). Hope to post some pictures of Blithewold Daffodils Days (next weekend).

Martha,
We went yesterday to Blithewold Daffodil Days. What a wonderful day we had. I posted a review in this thread on the Bulbs forum:

Any New Englanders, see if you can get down there this week. It was a great chance to see so many daffodils and spring flowering trees in bloom.

Beautiful picture album!! We went to Blithewold last year. I enjoyed it so thoroughly. Love those daffs.

Just had an article in the Hartford Courant about daffs too. They explained how our dry spring with intermitten cool and warm spells led to this year's bumber crop of daffs.

Dave - interesting observation in the article. I have been noticing people's daffodils as I drive around and they do seem fuller, lusher and lasting longer than other years. Mine are also doing well this year. So there is a reason for it!

Sue, Yeah. Mine seem to be lasting longer! That plus no water in my basement! Two positive side-effects of spring draught!

Speaking of daffodils in the Metro region, I have several groups that send up leaves, but no blossoms. Are they buried too deeply, too shallow, ? Any thoughts are much appreciated. I am new and hope this is the appropriate place to ask this question. Gail

Hi Gail & welcome!
The ones I have that seem to stop budding are those that get less sun. There are probably other causes but that's a good place to start.

One of my very best friends down here grew up in Sharon so I hear a lot about it.

See this link (mentioned somewhere else on DavesGarden) for things to look for why your daffodils aren't flowering...
