Disturbing news about optimara variegated plants

I talked to the gal at selective gardener. She told me they are discontinuing all the variegated optimara plants (with exception of modesty)
I emailed her and asked if I could buy leaves of all of them!

Lorry why are they doing this ? They don't even carry many. So she won't have the leaves anymore either ?

I don't know about the leaves. I just emailed her to ask her that.
She said they are discontinuing them because they rot easier in the plug stage.

I knew they sold leaves but they are exspencive . I did not know the plugs rot I've never had them before.

I never had little ones either..so I don't know...That is just what she told me today

I wish they would get more in the Southern Belle series there is only two and I was thinking of buying leaves of the other one Isabelle. I like bell flowers !

I spoke to the lady at selective gardener again. She said that they still have the variegated varieties in leaves..So I told her to add all of them (except modesty and tradition) to my order.
I already have those 2 varieties btu want to propogate the rest of them. I can't believe they won't be carrying the variegated ones any longer! How devastating!

Well I wonder what Optimara would say in response?

I have no clue as I didn't ask them. It is possible as some variegated varieties can be more difficult to grow. I also think variegated are less popular with people who don't collect violets.
I have asked a lot of our local nurseries why they don't carry variegated and they say they don't sell. I find it hard to believe but it is what I hear over and over again.
If this is true and Optimara is a major grower for big chains (which we know they are) They may just not sell enough of them to justify it.

I told her to give me leaves of ALL of the variegated to be on the safe side. I don't want to find that I can't find them any longer like the girl leaf optimaras.

Might be true plus variegated plants are not always stable with different eviroments or when plants get older. Mosaic variegated plants are most stable.
I'm sure like Foliage Chimeras progated by suckers other variegated plants would progate more true by suckers too also Fantasy flowering plants.
