"By the Moon" Planting

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Do any of you plant by the moon? I know it is very important to some people. My sister said I had to plant my tomatoes by yesterday, or I'd have to wait another month.

Can anyone provide insight into this? I'd like to plant my tomatoes this afternoon, but I need to know about the "moon".

thanks!

According to this, you are ok to plant today and tomorrow. I've been going by this pretty much this year, and so far have good germination. Also, if you will look down a few threads, Magpye had posted some information, also.

Sharon, thanks. I am so glad I have until tomorrow! I didn't see how I was going to get it done tonight.

Glad it helped! I'm hoping to get some of my tomatoes planted by tomorrow evening. With our weather they should have been out by now, but I haven't trusted the weather around here and have been waiting for the pecan trees to do their thing. Last year it snowed on Easter Sunday!!

This year I did followed the moon planting.. mostly my plants killed by frost . I had to re plant again.. so I wont do it again. LOL.. and start the fall planting in Sept to Oct.

Ya know, i have never planted by the moon, but I have found that cutting my hair by the moon WORKS. I am not crazy...I messed up and cut it a year ago in the waning moon ( a day after the full..couldn't get in before, and didn't think it would matter...) and it took forever to get the length back...people alway ask me what I do to make my hair grow so fast, and when I tell them, shake their heads and walk away..but I swear by it..

Folks used to do it all the time... I'm afraid it's a 'science' that has gone by the wayside, as so many other things have.

Artemis, when is the time for it to grow the fastest.

Springfield, IL(Zone 5b)

During the waxing moon..especially the days right before the full moon...
I've read somewhere that there are "signs" that are supposed to be better, but I have always had such good luck with just making sure I cut it in the 3 days before the full moon, that I haven't really looked into it further.

I used to do it long ago, but quit taking the almanac. Always trying to get my hair to grow longer. My bangs I prefer to slow down. Thanks!

For the bangs: cut them in the days before the new moon..I too, did this back when I still had bangs, esp since I was able to cut them myself..

artemiss, I do the same thing when I cut my hair. I also always try to transplant during full moons, but as far as all else goes, I've lost tract.

I like to take trips during full moons, too. Gives a grander perspective of a place, and I like to sleep outside under the full moon. Don't remember why, I just do.

I love to be outside on a perfectly warm summer night when the full moon is at it's closest. It's eerie and mystical.

If you haven't, you need to see it in the desert. Incredible.

I can't imagine. We have the yellowish streetlights now and the sky is ruined. I also hate the neighbors security light. I planted the arborvitae to block it out. Hey, I'm going to start a new thread!

Do it...and I'm going to bed with the birds.....
