Clavel del Campo, Country Carnation
Mutisia subulata

Mutisia subulata var. subulata. This specific plant had flowers of 10+cm (over 4") diameter and the most beautiful shade of red.

Beautiful red, I have just noticed you have a lot of these plants, I had two at my last place, Mutisia ilicifolia and Mutisia latifolia , I should go back and see if they are still there. I did not realize there are this many regards Boots.

Thanks, Boots. In my humble opinion, Mutisias are among the 10 most beautiful Chilean native flowers. In fact, one of my e-mail addresses is mutisia@............ Did you notice this Mutisia has totally different leaves than the ones you had in your other place?

You can find different Mutisia species all along the Andes Mountains, from Colombia to the Patagonia.

Boots, the other Mutisia subulata I posted is 'rosemarinifolia' (leaves are Rosemary-like). They have short leaves and do not have the tendrils at the end of each leaf because they are petite plants that scramble through the stones. In fact, the flower is larger than the whole plant LOL.

The other type of Mutisia leaves I know is the one of M. sinuata. They have narrow, serrated leaves. Check the PF - I think you can distinguish them.
