Ideas for a friend. No bees please!

I have a friend who has a deck that is in full sun. She wants to do a bunch of container plants window box planters or other types....
She has 2 doggies who she is afraid will get into bees and she herself isnt too fond of them and doesnt want them all over her deck.
So what are some nice things I can suggest to her to put in a planter that will not attract bees (or even discourage them from coming around), and will still be pretty, in the sun?

Things like colored swiss chard, lettuces, collards etc. I think generally things that do not flower.
