I have a cutting that is doing great and putting on a bunch of seeds. This is a cutting I got from someone on the board last Fall and I have it potted up and it has been great (I did lose one). It has been outside on my patio for some time now in the sun....I just need to know where is the best place to plant this guy? Shade or sun? When planting this out can you tell me of any precautions that need to be taken?? what is the best way to plant it?
Basically any info would be great! I kept it alive in the pot long enough now I want it to do well for me in the ground.....
A little brug help please :)
I am fairly new to this, too, but I have seen some discussion about certain brugs doing better in morning sun and some can take pretty much full sun. It may depend on what you have. Hope one of the pros happens by with more info.
Well, I am not one of the pros but it has been my experience, they like some sun to bloom well. I know I have read on here that where it is very hot, they really can use some shade in the worst heat of the day.
But you are so right, Sharon. Some brugs take the sun much better than others.
Also if in the ground and not in a pot, it will have a better root system to deal with more heat.
I just dig a hole and amend with steer manure and put the brug in. I also plant a lot in 5 gallon cans so I can dig them up much easier when it is time to toss them. You do not even have to make extra holes, the roots will come right out of the little holes in the bottom and grow huge! Still being potted in the ground does not slow them down a bit. I suspect it makes it easier to dig them up for winter also.
Good luck! Do not worry, they are really very easy to grow and have a strong survival instinct!
I dont know which it is since I got a Dr. Suess and a dusty pink color from the same person at the same time..I lost one to some sort of rot and now I dont know which one I have left until it blooms.
I live in North GA and it is getting into the mid 70's during the day now and into the 40's at night. It has been on my patio now for several weeks. I just dont know if I have a spot that isnt either full shade or full sun. Would like to get it in the ground soon though.....
Thanks for your reply
When you are talking about digging them up...if you have one that is in the ground can it not stay there if you cut it back to just above the ground and mulch heavily with it surviving? Or do they not survive winter at all?
I would rather keep it in the ground then be digging something up all the time or having it lay around in a pot I dont know if I have a big enough pot....guess I could always get one but then again dont know where I would keep the pot all winter.
Depends on your zone. I know a lot of peope where it frosts hard, do mulch well and they grow great in spring.
If you have to choose, I personally would pick more sun then all shade to get lots of flowers. If you have it in the ground it should do better in the heat than a potted one. It may deflate in the heat of the day, but they bounce back the cooler evening. If it just hates where it is, you can always move it.

Thanks for your help and the link Kell.....I see them come up on their own in wierd spots....like at a local business down the road that I know nobody goes and plants these plants there every year so they must make it through alright. Atleast I am hoping so. We will see.....
