Rock gardening, anybody know any good books.

Vista, CA

I have been rock gardening with arid plants for 21 years. I have sought books on the subject, and years ago found only one book on the subject of rock gardening. It wasn't much help because more than dealing with rocks on slopes, it focused on alpine plants.

Interestingly many deserts include rugged, rocky slopes in which desert plants survive and flourish. Many are at there best where they can hide from the intense daytime heat in the shade of a big rock or boulder that exposes them only to the morning sunlight.

I have deatl with a lot of issues in getting succulents worked into a rocky hillside landscape. But there are perrenial issues that I have not found ways to deal with.

I like all plants but am particularly fascinated by xeriphytic alpine plants that grow in the rocks. I have a few sempervivums and quite a few echeveria and crassula that grow in the rocks at altitude. Since my climate is mostly desert and sub-tropical, many of the wetter climate plants have a hard time here in the bright hot summer days of S. Calif.

Looking for good books, any recommendations?
