The critter: 7 week old male Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, first round of wormers (x4), shots, Capstar & Advantage Saturday, April 8th. Picked up night of April 7th.
Tinkle tinkle! I've got a leaker! Friday night, Saturday, and almost all of Sunday, little guy did nothing but sleep! Wimper a little, snuggle a bit, and sleep sleep sleep in his crate. Understandably, as he was taken from Momma, brought to me, strange dog & two cats sniffing him all over, vet for shots, carried to a greenhouse/nursery by me, and left to relax. I didn't wake him except for a few times to make sure he'd potty (outside, not in the crate). He watched Schnauzer Allie, figured out that's what he was outside to do, and pottied great! I praised lavishly (once I realized he doesn't squat or leg-lift to pee... just spreads his legs a TINY bit & goes).
Last night (after I left the house for only the second time since getting him) after handbell rehearsal, came home, pottied, fed (in his crate). We curled up on the couch (first time ever) & watched some tv. Pottied again. BF came over, made himself a quick sandwich, puppy became wide-out alive! Running & playing. Moving around better than he had since coming to me. Good energy, and playful!!! Only one problem -- he was taking about 4 steps, peeing a little, and going back to playing. I picked him up mid-pee, said "no" strongly, took him out, made sure he pottied, and came back in. Repeat 3 times! Sniffing the carpet, taking 4-6 steps, peeing. Got him outside, he was doing the same thing... step step step, peee,,,, step step step, peeeee. And he wasn't going a little, either. I watched, it was clear in color, just very very frequent.
I've never had such a young pup in the house, and never had a male. Is this normal for a large-breed young male puppy? This morning before work I didn't let him out of my sight. He didn't do it this morning, at all, with a potty-break about every half-hour or so. Running & playing today just like last night, but without the potty-incidents inside.
Checking to make sure it's normal & not a "need to see the vet" issue.
TIA,
Jennifer
