I just stick my fingers in my ears now and cover my eyes. I'm too poor to play with the big kids. LOL Maybe after I get all the girls out of the house....

Badseed
I now what you mean about the kids- I am afraid that my 19 yr old will live here forever! Yikes!
Sometimes though you can find some interesting varigated plants by accident, I have found a couple. Here in Houston there is a well known plant guy who found a strange varigation on Hamelia patens, he took a cutting of the plant and nurtured it and developed Hamelia patens V. Beyers. Of course I am not lucky enough to recognize strange leaves or figure that if I propagated it I'd have a new hybrid! But lost of folks here will send cuttings, etc.

Bwilliams! WOW! those are excellent! and by the way, do you want to get married! LOL- you have the most amazing plants and we all know people who have married for money, so what's wrong w/ marrying for varigation?!

Louisville, KY

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

Now Im in trouble, I just read about finding these on ebay, always a bad idea when i start ebaying.

I have some babies of Alocasia macrorhiza 'Variegata' , whats the best way to go about separating them from the big root so I can trade some of the smaller ones.I realy love philodendron florida beauty var, or any thing else variegated and cool. Also looking for Aglaonema modestum 'Spilt Milk'.

Brian's the real expert on commercially propagating them.
I just move enough soil to find the base of the pups.
Make sure they have roots.
Sever the runner. Dip the base and roots in a RH.
Pot up the pup and tent it in a plastic bag for a few days.
This keeps up the humidity.

Philodendron aurea variegata 'Florida' or philodendron florida beauty var
I grow in a case.
For me at least it seems to suffer from low humidity.
Browns off on the edges.
I've found Philodendron domesticum 'Varigatum' to be easier to grow.

Oh NO!!! I knew I should NOT have clicked on this thread! Brian, you are a very bad boy! (With some gorgeous plants I might add)

Louisville, KY

This plant is fairly easy to propagate. The best way I can tell you is to take the plant out check to tubers some tubers will have a tall plant attached to them with roots. You can break it off from the tuber and plant both. Do not fertilize for a few weeks till you have new leaves. The main thing I think I have learned over the years is to use good potting soil. I had tried many times to cheat but a good peat base soil should be used with good heat bright shade and you will see them move fast.
