Fantastic!

Thanks, Kniphofia.

The day I took the picture, there was one mother plant (with roots) and two offsets(?) lying at the roadside. They had been washed away from a heavy rain. Since I was not able to put them back, because it was an almost perpendicular slope, I brought them home together with the soil that was washed down. I kept one and gave the other two to friends that are really fond of cacti. All three are doing well.

Ursula, I have that same species. I got it from a grower in British Columbia. It hasn't flowered yet but looks like it will be stunning when it does.

On the side, seedlings from your Tropaeolum brachyceras has just started to bloom.

Todd, I did not know you are fond of cacti!

The first year, T. brachyceras blooms rather shy. The second year they will bloom much, much more and from the 3rd year on you won't believe how many flowers you will have. Check the PF where I posted pictures of a first year T.b. I think TomTom's pictures correspond to two year old plants (also grown from seeds). BTW, I have seen pictures of T.b. climbing on huge cacti.

Last year I sowed some T. tricolorum and they only produced a tiny vine and died back very soon. I hope they come back this year and bloom for me.

Hugs,

Ursula
