My new Plant, need ideas

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

It was waaaay in the back of a plant display and very very dry and flat, so I took pity on it and brought it home for .99cents. It looked terrible, but I watered it up and now it just looks pitiful. It is in a 4" pot and I know it needs to be potted down but all I have is a 3" terra cotta that has been painted on the outside. Should I trim all the ugly leaves off too??? TIA for any help....Lauri

Edited to add, she is in quarintine in the back bedroom by herself...Lauri

Good job isolate that plant a good 2-3 months. Yes always take dead , spent foliage and flowers off.
Give it a good bath in wamr water and dish soap rinse well. Do you have neem oil ? If so Spray with neem oil top , under foliage in soil roots...
Check soil are roots healthy, is foliage healthy. check for signs of pest, holes in foliage. Is soil heavy ? I always like to repot into light soil-less mixture as most of these Nursery grown plants are in heavy soil.
I sometimes take most or all of the soil and roots off if needed.

PS is her foliage as dark as it looks ? Pretty cool.

Hi Allison, Yep the older leaves are very dark green and the varigated new is dark with a whiteish purple color to it, LOL now that they are no longer flat. She already had an Ivory bath and rinsed out well and I don't have neem but will get some in the morning, should I pot her down to a 3" or go smaller the roots look healthy and not bound. The potting mixture is almost pure peat and it took quite awhile to get her back to looking alive....Thanks Lauri.

If she seems to large under 10-14 inches annd root system is good I'd put her in light soil-less mixture putting new soil on bottom sides and top. She has a cool color to her :))

O.k. should I wait till after the quarentine to do leaves or just do them and quarentine them too?? Gads sorry about all the questions. :)...Lauri

you can do either now or later. Which ever you'd like and quarentine them all. Where did you buy it ?

I found it all by itself behind the orchids at Home Depot. Will repot and all tomorrow after I get the neem. Thank Allison you are soooo patient and great!! (((HUGS))) Lauri

WOW how neat ! Maybe someone was hiding it sense it's so pretty ! It did not have any tag or name ?

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

The tag only says *African Violet* from Fisher Nursery. That is it besides the care of it which goes against all I have learned here :)...Lauri

Best I can figure is a Wholesale Nursery that sells plants one AV's.
They may be put of Canada but not sure. Different most times Lowes and HD have Optimara and Ultra's nice difference ! Did it have flowers ?

Morning, yes it had one single pink flower. Right now everyone has tons of orchids and easterlilys in, all the stores are saying Mother's day for any new violets and such...Lauri

There is a Hybridizer who's name is Fisher and has over 230 plants in First Class. Most are vintage and they were well known Nursery growers of African violets I'm not sure what esle ?
But I think the Fisher Nursery your plant come from is different.
It sure is beautiful. I hope it grows big and healthy for you :)) A great find ! So glad you shared it with us !
