My GOTS did not come up the first 2 years so I thought they were lost and deleted the information on these beauties.
The Plant Files have 2 entries. Can someone tell me the difference between the two.
Glory-of-the-Snow (Chionodoxa luciliae) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/757/index.html
Glory of the Snow (Chionodoxa forbesii) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/55568/index.html
Thanks, Linda
The difference between Glory of the Snow
Hi Linda -
I'm no expert, but I keep trying these bulbs because I love blue! I planted both types in Fall of '04. In Spring of '05 the luciliae bloomed but I thought I'd lost the forbesii; this spring the forbesii appeared (like yours) but the luciliae are gone.
Based on that experience and the descriptions I recall, Chionodoxa forbesii is more common that luciliae, but luciliae had slightly bigger blooms & might have been a little taller. In my case the forbesii had darker blue blooms; much prettier.
I have files on all my plants including who and what I trade.
I deleted the person name so I cannot contact her; but I found a file that contained C. luciliae.
From your description I think I have luciliae. These are pale in color. Most likely the file was correct.
I will try to find some forbesii just to see the comparison. Thanks for the info. Linda
