With my horribly uncooperative camera, my picture taking ability is limited to one picture at a time. Blasted thing! Anyway, here are a few that I have managed to snap over the past few days.
This is Mosaique, going completely crazy pushing up babies!
A few pictures...
RG,
Can I ask how long it took for her to push up babies, cause i did 2 leaves on march 1st and can't hardly wait for babies to come up.
Char
Here's a picture of one of my tubs of babies. Most of these are the ones Allison sent me in January. Mosaique is all the way to the right, in the middle. Orchid Girl is below Mosaique, second from the right end, bottom row, and also upper left corner. Several Angel Tears Trail mom leaves are in there, and the little plantlet above and to the left of Mosaique is Aly's Blizzard Bunny. I can't remember who else is in that picture.
Some others that I can remember that have ears: Blue Dragon, Yan Selena, Wonderous Girl, one of Rob's (boy, that narrows it down, doesn't it? LOL) There are so many more, but I'm drawing a blank. I'll try to get more pictures soon.
It was almost exactly 6 weeks before I saw the first ears poking through. They were put down on January 13. But I have some that were put down that same day that still don't have ears. I'm able to be patient with those because these are doing so well. The ones that don't have ears are very healthy, and well rooted, so I guess there's nothing to do but wait.
I do wonder though, if I were to trim off a little bit of the top of the leaves that haven't put up ears, would that do anything to help force babies?
Do any of those babies look big enough to remove from the Mom leaves?
RG,
I just went over an took a peek at my leaves and OMG OMG OMG...I see a little ear coming...If you look real close you can see it just poking his little head....I am so terrible happy now....I feel like a new mom....This is my first attempt in doing it this way and tried many times before by just putting them in alittle water, with no success.....YAY I did It
Char
Char, I can't tell exactly where it is, but I believe ya! LOL I missed my first ear the first time I looked at it. I looked at them all, and after a minute I thought, "Wait a minute, that chunk of perlite was green and my perlite isn't green!" Looked again, and sure enough, there it was! I went running through the house yelling for the kids - they thought something was wrong! LOL I got a resounding, "Oh, that's great Mom." (Did you pick up on the total lack of excitement there?) Then as they walked off I heard one of them mutter, "Geez, I thought something big was happening." ROFL Little did they know, it was! :o)
Beautiful Healthy Mom and Babies Amy ! Amy a good amount of your leaves were from second box end of Jan. I looked and " Mosaique " was one of them ! I just love this plant Mom always blooming and I put four more leaves down of her the other day.
Amy the babies are all too small to be taken from Mom. A good rule of thumb is going to be 4-6 months from time you put leaf down. I let mine get a tall as Mom leaf many times Mom leaf is gone dead. When I pot them up alone they are good healthy size nice root systems of their own.
It's like a pre0mature baby if it comes out of it's Mom a month or two early it may make it and be behind and someday catch up with lots of care and a strugle.
But if left with Mom full term will be healthy and ready to be on it's own and will grow faster and bloom faster. Many of mine bloom away with Mom.
Give the weak food, and light and humdity. Do them and yourself a favor let them grow up with Mom another month or two !
Char your new baby is so cute too ! Amy you are doing an excellent growing with all your leaves ! How's your plants doing !
Keep up the good work :))
Thank you Allison! I wasn't trying to rush them, I just didn't know when it was time to remove them. I'll leave them just like they are! I don't want to endanger them in any way. I'm having a ball watching them grow!
I guess that's normal for each leaf to sprout babies in their own time, isn't it? Some take less time, some take more?
Well, I haven't drowned anymore plants, Allison. I'm still heartbroken about that. I've got bloom stalks coming up on several of them, too.
Hey, I do have a question for you. One of my Little Indian girls had two bloom stalks that she put up after I put her on a pebble tray. All was well, but all of a sudden the very top of the bloom stalks turned mushy and the buds dried up. Now how can the stalk be mushy, but the bud dry? And what did I do to cause this? I'm being very careful not to overwater anymore.
That's very interesting question. Humidity and bud drying off. Could be fertilizer/salt build up . Are you wick watering. I'd take a peak at Doc Optimara so you don't lose her.
Make sure you put leaves down from all your plants for insuance , and big Fall sharing and trades !
The plant itself appears to be fine. Leaves are pretty and green, crown looks healthy, neck isn't mushy or brown. I'm wick watering, but not leaving the wick in water. Just setting her in water til she soaks some up, then taking her completely out. And I've got the wick where it doesn't touch the water under the pebbles. I just can't figure out the mushy stalk, but dry bud. It doesn't seem to go together at all.
I'm putting more leaves down today. Lack of space has kept me from putting down as many as I'd like, but I got some new plastic containers, so I'm ready to work!
HHMM weird. I know about the room thing. lol And yet I can't be helped I keep putting down leaves. lol. Then the leaf turns into many babies :)) One one leaf pot can be 3,5, 6 pots of baby plants WOW :))Then they need a good month of so light and growing room before they can be shipped to a new Mom. But I enjoy it so much. There is nothing like growing African violets by a leaf !
Oh yes another reason to make sure the babies with Mom are big and healthy with roots systems is most likely there are several plants in the pot. What might apear to be good size will turn into a very small plant.
~If a plant sold and share too small ( now micros and minis are never going to get real big) sent to a newbie grower chances are the plant is going to die as it is going to need special care just like Miniatures AV's need special care. ~
Oh guess what I was sad as I sent you all my blooming Minautre plants ordered more from Bluebirds only to have them soggy , dull unhealthy foliage all trash material beyond saving. ( they did refund me 100 percent even shipping) well I have bought those plants several times each to put down leaves for me and to share as I love them. I now have many, many Pat Champagne , Hyla's Little Lira , Funny Bunny, and more babies of others. I always love the variegations so strong on the babies :)) Several are in their own pots already :))
I see it! Congrats Mom!
Love that Birdhouse, Raingazer.
Don
Amy your birdhouse is really nice :)) Can you put a plant in it ?
Welcome to Happy Motherhood Char nice baby !
Love the birdhouse. I have been told not to put out birdhouses because of the bird flu that is supposed to hit here in the fall. Have you all heard anything about it in your area? I have COPD and was told if I got it that would be the end of me. I have a tree spirit bird house that yours reminds me of and I wanted to put it out but decided maybe I shouldn't. It is sitting on a shelf in the living room with plants.
I have one of Allisons also of the Mosaique. Does everyone of us have some of her plants? Get you AV fix at Allisons. :)
Well I'm try to empty a plant stand for some of my large keeper plants ! But I have not 1/4 of space. lol I'm sure Thanks to the help of Lorry and Laurie and Anna and more people I have about 400 leaves down.
I still have many, many baby plants. After I get everyone's plants out I will post again more plants for adoption :)) I think I'll do a small box of 4 plants and a larger box of ten plants. And Maybe i'll sponcor a Bingo game too :))
